Too make a long story short I'm going to Cheyenne WY for Frontier days in July and want to pack my combat commander along for the trip. I have case that's FAA approved for flying with handguns but I'm worried about it getting stolen or lost due to its size.

Anyone have any experience with this? I've transported rifles in the past with no difficulties.

Put locked gun case inside suitcase.
That's what I do and it's always worked for me.

Usually the firearm cases are treated seperately from normal luggage, but it depends on the airport. Here in Phoenix, they escort you over to an inspection station once you declare the firearm and then it is escorted to the plane. When I arrive, I have to pick it up @ the luggage desk w/ ID. I would call your departure and arrival airports to see what their procedures are. I travel with a locked large pelican case with the firearms inside in their OEM box. The locked gun case inside the suitcase should work as well.

That's the process Ive gone through the few times I've transported rifles hunting out west. I'm going to check with the airline sometime in the next week or so.
