Working with the same middle aged woman I mentioned in the rifle section, I've been coaching this lady on the handgun.

She LOVES shooting the full size, 5" .45 1911 steel framed handgun.

Likes the way the 3.5" Officer's Model feels, but doesn't like the way it shoots.

Said the 9mm CM-9 Kahr "was trying to jump out of my hand!"

Does NOT like small .38/.357 double action revolvers AT ALL.

Kind of likes the .44 mag S&W 629, even with full power 240 gr JHP loads...

LOVES the .22 Ruger semi-auto target pistol.

Interesting.

I can certainly see why she would love the 1911. It's heavy enough to mitigate some recoil, and thin enough for smaller hands to get around. The single action trigger on a good one is not unlike the surreal touch of an ivory key on a grand piano.

That's quite a mix guy, of course there is no way to guess what a women will like. My wife also likes the Ruger 22 target pistol. Her Glock 9mm, will not touch a 45, and loves her S&W 22 compact.

I thought my wife would love the Ruger SP101.
Nope. She snatched my 3" model 65. I'm willing to bet that your new shooter, given that she likes the 1911, would like the Grande Puissance in 9mm.
