Last month a real nice, very accurate Winchester Model 70 with a laminated stock, stainless barrel and a Jewell trigger in 300 WSM left my "collection" for good. It was a wonderful rifle, genuinely 1/2 MOA capable with a heavy duty load built around the 210 gr Berger VLD. I bought the rifle when I was more interested in long-range hunting. Figured it would be great for those mule deer or elk at longer ranges. Well heck, I never actually shot any game with it... So, off it went.

Today the S&W 500 went on consignment at the local gunshop. It'll be on Gunbroker within a few days. I like it. Bought it back in 2003, when they were first introduced. I enjoyed handloading it and letting folks shoot it. Heck I enjoyed shooting the doggone hand cannon. Used a 440 grain cast bullet for all of my handloads. Never did build any reduced loads. It was something I wanted, but I don't use it except for entertainment occasionally. Beautifully made revolver. I think S&W was trying really hard in that first run to produce 500's that were top quality. But... It's gone.

I've been doing this for the past few years - "thinning the herd" a bit. With each gun that I sell, I think "What won't I be able to do, if I sell this one?"

Usually the answer is that selling the gun won't keep me from doing any of the shooting or hunting I want to do. So... Off it goes.

The cash is getting set aside for a big hunt.

Some of it might get diverted for a rifle... But not much.

Looks to me like the "big hunt" may be entirely funded by firearms sales! I rather like that idea!

Guy, that's a couple of nice guns you sent down the trail.
There will be a couple of happy fellas with those guns.
Tell us more about the "Big Hunt".

Guy, I commend you as I have tried on a number of occasions to thin out my herd but I just can't seem to do it. I take them out clean them up and then remember a moment with it and then say well maybe my boys will get rid of it when I am gone .

Blessings,
Dan

Ya, I've actually let quite a few go in recent years. Stuff I just wasn't using.

Some were pretty nice firearms, as will be some of the ones coming up for sale. I run 'em all through a local dealer who auctions them on Gunbroker. Easy to keep everything legal that way. He takes his consignment fee, but that's fine, he's a good fellow and we've been friends for over 20 years. I like dealing with him.

JD338... More on the "big hunt" as plans solidify. Building funds for it now...
