This has to be a most encouraging development for you. Either sounds like a good opportunity to move in a more desirable direction.

Score...

Turned in my notice this morning to great wailing and gnashing of teeth. I landed a job at Providence Hospital in Anchorage as a project manager in their operational excellence department and accepted their offer.

It's a completely different industry, but the parallels of what I can do for them are obvious to the manager and they really want me on board. Nice to feel valued for what I'm packing in my skull. They really sold me on how low stress the whole operation is.

Hodgeman, good for you as you deserve to be happy in your work .
Just a note on why I retired in 2007, for over 4 years before I retired I took over a group of Insurance Adjusters and clerks in the General Claims area They told me it was a temp job but in the 4 years they gave me 2 increases over the pay scale to keep me. Then one day they advised me that the job was going to become permanent and then asked if I was going to apply and I advised my Manager yes and he advised me great and left my office. About 20 minutes later that same manager called me into is office and I could see on his face it was not good news. Well anyways I advised that I could still apply for the job but unfortunately I would be a nil certified applicant if someone with all the education applied :( well all eight of the adjusters and 6 clerks that I supervised had the education but did not have over 30 years of experience in the field as I had. I called my Union rep and he advised that they would not grieve this for me as it was their policy that had been implemented.
I had been given a offer at the church I attended to do my Pastoral Internship so after praying and speaking with me wife I decided to take the Church's offer.
Best thing that I have ever done  .
Hodgeman I am know that you will succeed at anything you attempt (y)

Blessings,
Dan

Got here late.
Good for you. Sounds like an improvement all around.
I made a change in my 50s. Went on my own. Tough but a good move.
Good luck with the new gig!

Another update...

I was worried about how marketable I would be after so long in my prior field. Not only did I get an offer from the hospital, I also got an offer from a gold mine and a utility. The utility ended up being the best position with the most upside for the future. They're looking for a guy to manage their 5 year capital project plan when the current tenant retires next year, and I fit that role to a 'tee'. Comparable pay, better benefits...and they have a headquarters in Fairbanks, where I'll be working. No out of state home office politics to contend with.

I start next week. Best part, it's not that far and the family can stay put until after graduation. My son can graduate from his school and get to shoot his senior year on the varsity rifle team uninterrupted.
