Well, today Maverick and I had company! Two nice folks accompanied us while we hiked 4 miles, gaining a bit over 1,000' and enjoyed our first snowshoe hike of the season! We weren't far from town, and not much higher, but there was at least a foot of snow, and it was a really nice hike. A few photos from today:

My old buddy Fred, Vietnam Veteran, US Army. Great guy. Snowshoe & bicycle fanatic:

Maverick, chillin' on the trail:

Scenery shot. Sometimes we go another four miles over that direction, to the west, but not today:

Looks to have been a good work-out. Maverick appears to have enjoyed the trek.

Thanks. Must have been a good workout. Maverick and I both took naps when we got home.

Guy,

That looks like an awesome time in a beautiful trail.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Thanks JD.

To keep the load reasonably light, I was only carrying my 9mm Kahr, with six rounds. Normally once the bears are bedded down, I feel reasonably well armed with the little gun.

But, the past couple of days a number of wolves have been reported in the area. I think I'm going back to my 45 1911 and an extra mag or two. I shoot it better.

Very nice! I have a pair of smaller ones but they weren’t cutting it for staying on top of really deep stuff, so I just got some Bigfoot 11x40 out of Canada, made for trappers with heavy loads. Should stay on top better when it’s really deep,
Otherwise I’ll use the small ones

I have yet to begin to procrastinate

Ya, these MSR's do fine for me most of the time.

I need to put some new bindings on my OLD wood and rawhide 10x56" shoes though. Those are so cool, and float well. Mostly though, they're just cool. I asked too many years from the bindings and they let me down on a hike last winter. Haven't replaced them yet.
