Recommended powders ya'll use with 180 grain bullets in the .308? I have several boxes of 180 BT's I like to try out. I currently use the 168 BT with Varget.

I would try Varget, IMR 4831, IMR 4064, IMR 4895 to start with. Varget is an excellent powder to start and stay with.

I guess I'll leave the H4895 for the light bullets like the 150 to 155 weight, and that leaves me with Varget, MR2000 and IMR 4064 to try. Got them on my shelf. Never tried the 180 BT out of the .308, looks bigger on frontal area compared to the 168's. Possibly try to push them to the 2600 - 2625 fps range. I will have the powder crunch for sure.

I would think that RL16 would be a good powder, but maybe the .308 doesn't have quite enough case capacity to get the full benefits.. Probably why it is not on the list.. It works really well in my 91 Mauser, 7.65x53. Good speed and mild recoil and pressure. These 2 cartridges are pretty similar.

I tried 4064, Blc-2, 4320, but finally got an accurate load with 40.5 gr of RL-15. Put a 180BT length wise through my biggest whitetail to date @ 125yds. Then added another dozen to the freezer at ranges from 10yds to way out there.

If you can find it, and don't mind paying for it..N550 is working very well in my friends .308 with 175 gr match kings...
