I recently purchased a 460 that will be here by Christmas  , if everything goes well. I am looking for real world load data on the 500 grain Nosler Partitions (44745) if anyone has some. Reloader 17 is what I would like to use , but open to others. I know this isn't a popular cartridge and I could never get Quick Load to match my other 2 Weatherys so I'm asking for your help here. Thanks.

My hunting buddy that is an old retired Marine sighted in a 460 WM once for a fellow that was going on an
African hunt. Said that with the factory 500 gr Barnes solids even with the muzzle break it had more recoil than shooting a rifle grenade off an M1 Garand from the shoulder. LOL

Can be. If it had the pendleton type brake yes. The accubrake is not an issue

Thanks guys , not to worried about recoil. Weatherby does a good job of taming recoil with the Accubrake. My 30-378 weighs in at 13lbs and it pleasent to shoot , that is the same weight I’m targeting the 460 to weigh in when i’m done with it.

Don't get me wrong, I just bought a second 223 bolt action because I can, but what is the plan with such a beast of a rifle? All I can see is Burt from the movie Tremors. I pity the whitetail that gets in the sights of that rifle..

Whitetail deer HA! Try jackrabbits and cottontails.

Excellent practise. Are you practising shooting them as they run?

I'm so fearful of the recoil, I was afraid to click on this thread!

Beautiful Weatherby there Ken. Real nice. (y)

I feel like my shoulder needs to get redone after looking at that rifle... Damned good shooting.

Weighing in at 150lbs soaking wet I bought and periodically shot a 460 WBy. I must say that its an activity that everyone should experience at least once. Most of my friends did shoot it ONCE, but then refused to even pick it up after that.
My rifle was an original German made Mark V with the Pendelton Dekicker. It was devastating on fat PA groundhogs. :>)

Kinda reminds me of when I shot my 10 gauge with a 766 grain rifled slug, felt like my retinas were detached.

Ken - is that stock walnut or ?

Ya, biggest couple of sporting rifles I've fired are a .450 Ackley, and a .458 Win mag. You'll note that I don't have any desire to own either one...

Have also shot several big boys like the .408 Chey Tac, and the .50 BMG in rifles that were reasonably man-portable (as long as somebody like Scotty is along to carry 'em) but... They don't count as "sporting rifles" to me. They're tactical monsters...

Guy

DrMike,no I don't practice on running rabbits. I should, but most of the time I miss them and it's fun sneaking up on the bunnies.

Guy,that stock is straight from Weatherby Custom Shop. All .460's (IIRC) are made in the custom shop. By the way,it was made in 1986.

Also, that load I used on the rabbits was only going 2000 fps with a 500 gr Hornady.

I can load it down to .45/70 levels all the way up to equal factory .460 levels. Right now I'm using 95.0 grains of Var-Get,500 grain Hornady DGX,Fed 215 Mag primer. That load is getting just over 2300 fps and that is top end for a .458 Lott, but at lower pressures.

My classic mark 460

Very nice looking rifle and the bunnies should be some good eating with no blood shot meat and already tenderized. :)>)

That's a sharp looking rifle Fotis but then I would expect to see nothing less from your collection. :)>)

I just can't imagine touching the trigger on one of those Babies. I have found that off the bench, the .338RUM is enough of a bear that I don't need to dislodge my shoulder or go in for an eye checkup for something bigger.

I did finally pick it up. I believe this rifle was never fired.05D29DB3-6EB5-4032-96A9-E4A0EF1365BB.jpeg
I know I’ll take a beating for changing out the stock but I bought it to be a shooter and the wood is in to good of shape.3AC22D0A-1635-4EDC-BFF9-77A7188FB071.jpeg
Now all I have to wait for is the base to come yet and some warmer weather.

You got an accubrake on there. It will not kick badly
