Getting those MV’s - What barrel length do you have on your .25-06 Scotty?
 
I am shooting Speer 120's out of a T3 Tikka at 3150fps via RL25. A friend borrowed it this fall, that has hunted most of his life with a 308 Browning Auto rifle/ Tasco scope he sights in dead on at 100yds; :roll: He considers 200 yds a very long shot. There has been a very large Whitetail hanging around his fathers old farm and had been seen numerous times in the back fields approximately 400 up behind the barn. He watched me shoot milk jugs with the 25/06 at 413 yds by simply
Dailing the CDS on my VX2 and was amazed after I had him shoot one himself! ( His gun has a 5lb trigger pull) my 25/06 is set 2lb neat, so that took him a few shots to get used to! I told him to take it for a couple of weeks and see if he could get the old buck.
Well one evening he was hiding in the old barn and right at dark out slides this big deer. Later ranged at 393 yds. He flattened it with the 120 gr Speer and it weighed 252 field dressed! It's at the taxadermy shop now
being mounted! Just another 25/06 success story. (y)
 
252 dressed is a big deer. Last one I took I got 183 pounds of meet in the freezer. I thought that one was a pig.

I'm not doubting your final weight because I don't know how you package your deer meat, but if you got 183 lbs of meat it must of been virtually all bone in, which is still a very impressive deer mind you, I'm not taking away from that.

But 183 lbs of cut off meat would put that deer at around 250 hanging weight. On that kind of hanging weight you would add another 50lbs probably closer to 70lbs, for the hide, legs, and head, for the dressed weight. And at over 300 lbs dressed, that deer would be 400lbs on the hoof.
 
Yes, bone in on some of the larger cuts. A really fat, heavy deer and very good eating. Three is no shortage of food for them here in upstate NY and the gene pool is well established. Corn, clover, grass hay and apples ... they pork up pretty good.

That's a hawg. It's a somewhat rough estimate, but at that kind of bone in weight that deer was running neck and neck with the dressed weight of the one Earle posted about. Both BIG.
 
That’s a heckuva Deer. I usually get about 100-150lbs of Boned meat from an elk. Including the neck and rib meat.
 
Scotty that Scirocco load is excellent! My E-Tip load was very similar. Nosler case, cci BR2, started with a .065" jump, found the best accuracy at .115" off the rifling. 58.0gr shot well and 57.3gr shot even better.

Took my first two elk with a 25-06 and 120 gr Partitions way back when. No idea how many whitetail have ended up in the freezer because of that rifle and the other 25-06 I have.
 
25-06 has never really been on my radar, but I’ve talked to some shooters of this fine caliber lately that make me wanna try it out. I’d say a 115 or 120gr premium bullet at the velocities that it pushes them would be ideal deer medicine. I don’t really care for much lighter bullets on deer, but that is just a personal preference
 
While I load a 25-06 for my Son’s 700 CDL those speeds are impressive.

I would say the 6mm Rem Rox ! Thanks FOTIS. I have always loaded Alliant Reloader 22 with 100gr Hornady BTSP and thought it was fast and accurate in my 700 BDL but that Alliant Reloader 26 is going to half to be on my shopping list.
I have been waiting for the weather to improve to try those Nosler 95gr BT I bought since I was looking for a little tougher bullet than Hornady's 100gr BTSP.
Now FOTIS is it going to be 6mm Rem or 25-06 ?
I know I bought my Son a 25-06 because Remington did not offer a 6mm Rem. In its Remington 700 BDL or CDL anymore.
 
I have been shooting the 25-06 for 20+ years. I have shot the 117 Hornady for most of the time. It has killed 20ish whitetails and a few muley's. I just ordered some 110 AB to try out. Pretty excited to see what they can do. I have now transitioned all my rifles to Nosler AB's. What does QL show for the 110's? Comparable to the 100's?

I get 3120fps average MV from a 22” barrel using 110gn AB’s
Very effective on red deer and taken some good stags in excess of 300lbs dressed.

I bought a SS/syn 243 Marlin XS7 in like new shape with a 3x9 scope for almost nothing at a neighborhood pawn shop. Box and manuals etc all included.
