I'm loading some 142gr. LR AccuBond for a 6.5x55 Mod94 Swede milsurp 18" barrel. Does anyone have any powder/load data? I'm using IMR4320 & H4831.
Thanks

Sorry, I have not yet played with the ABLR in the Swede.
Perhaps someone on here with Quickload can run the numbers for you???

In previous 6.5's I ran 140 gr Partitions and X bullets with IMR4350 with good luck. This was prior to the AccuBond being introduced. I haven't done load development on my new Swede yet, but the Nosler factory load with the 140 gr AB is doing well. Will fine tune a load with this bullet later, hoping to try Re26.

Just curious why the 142 ABLR in a 18" barrel?
I realize the Creedmoor fans are pushing it out of shorter AR barrels for long range shooting; is that your goal too?
Or is it for hunting?

Reason for asking is your older milsurp barrel twist may be slower (i.e. 1:9) where the 142 may do better in a 1:8 twist. Not saying this will necessarily be so, but could be a factor for you.

A "General Rule of Thumb" is for faster speeds in a short barrel one uses heavier bullets over slower powders. I did say "general", as there are exceptions to "every rule" General or Private, ha.

Tagging in as I just got a 24" barreled Fieldcraft.

Breakin done and shot 2 groups... IMR4831 and R22 with 147 ELDM. Not that I got a load developed yet but 45 grs of IMR4831 gave 2725 fps and 47.3 grs of R22 was just under 2700 fps. No signs of pressure so want to increase loads and see if 2750 ish with accuracy possible.
BTW, R22 shot right at .60 MOA. The IMR4831 was a little over an inch but also shot through clean barrel!

Very hopeful we get an active thread. I know SJB358 has worked with Swede in modern rifles a lot.

In case you do not know that for the small ring Mauser 94s and 96s you need to keep your loads under 46,000 CUP.

The old Speer #10 Manual used the 94 to do it's load work up for the 6.5x55. For their 140 gr bullet they do not list either of the powders you have. They list IMR 4831 and IMR 4350 as giving the highest velocity. But I will only give out their starting load because the old Speer bullets were .263 not .264 START load IMR 4831 is 43.0 Grs. IMR 4350 42 grs.

Sierra's V Manual uses the model 96 Mauser and with their 140/142 gr bullets they list IMR 4320 start load as 34.5 grs and Max as 39.4

Hornady Manual uses 96 Mauser and list a Max load of H 4831 with their 140 gr bullet as 44.0 grs.

I have always had best accuracy with speed using Accurate 4350 with bullets from 120 to 160 gr in model 96s.

I had a friend who had a sported M-94 that used to load the Sierra 160 gr with IMR 4350 for use on deer at woods ranges and he never had to shoot one twice and never had to track one over 1 step either. But he was a shoulder shooter also. BANG FLOP

1 st Shot, good clarification on the small ring mausers and load pressures!!

My Fieldcraft loads s/not be used in non-modern actions.

Also a note to your Speer #10 load data.. I m certain the starting load you re quoting is for 4831, NOT 4198!! Just a caution to anyone reading this thread.

Sure would like to see more guys loads for MODERN actions too. The Swede is very capable in modern actions with modern pressures.
Thx

It’s a wicked performer in a modern rifle. RL26, 7828, 22, 23, H1000 all work well with the heavies. I’ve not done anything much with ABLRs but my 22” Featherweight dotes on 26 and 140 Accubonds at 2900.

Good catch, yes a TYPO. I corrected it.

Even with the under 46,000 CUP loads according to the Accurate Manuel with AA 4350 when you have the 29" barrel on the Model 96 which I left on the sporter rifle I built you can still get high velocity. I get in the low 2800s fps with 140s and high 2900s to 3000 fps with 120s. And I also get sub MOA accuracy. The rifle I built was one I got for a song at a gun show about 20 years ago that some Bubba had been hacking on. It had a good barrel so I cut the straight bolt handle off and made a new one and welded it on for scope use. Drilled and tapped for a Leupold scope base and put a Bold side safety trigger that I tuned to 2 3/4 Lb and put in a composite stock. It shoots. I have killed a good number of deer with it out to around 500 yards which is only limited by where I hunted.

No flies on the Swede whether old military action or new modern action.

Those 6.5mm bullets hit and penetrate beyond their size!!
