Finally got my paws on an 8lber of 26, so will be mixing up some loads today to see if I can find a great LR load for my little Ruger UL. Hoping to see 3K with 140 BTs but will have to see what I get for preasures, and how it shoots them? I will post the loadings if anyone is interested in these newer powders?

I think that would be a good match. Alliant does list some load data for the 150 grain bullets.

You might also want to experiment with magnum primers if the standard LR aren't working out.

Good luck! (y)

35, I have not used 26 but I just worked up a load for my wby ultralight with 24in. barrel using rl22. Win., brass, fed 215, 59g rl22, 140 AccuBond, 3050fps, shoots .750 or less. I hope this helps.

I've managed to get over 3000 fps witht he 150NBT and R26 from a 22" BAR .270...so look for 3100 or a tad more from your 140's Young Man! :) I got over 3000 with R22 and 140AB from another 22" .270, so you are in "High Cotton" with R26...which much more temp stable than R22 or even R25!

You should be right around the 3K mark at your top loads with the 20" barrel E. I'll be interested in seeing what your Ruger does.

Holy cow! Yet another reason for me to find some RL 26 when we get back! I'll be doing cartwheels if I can get 3100 out of the kiddos' 270s with a 140 AB and 3000 with the 150 ABLR out of mine, especially if I can get the SDs that Scotty was pulling with his .243 load development and the temp stability folks are claiming with 26.

Take Care,

Joe

I'm about to try it in the 270 and 7mm WSM as well. It is a super powder so far. I like what I'm seeing as far as number.

Loaded up a couple boxes of .270s today , 140gr SST bullets and 57.5grs of RL26 in one and 58.0grs in the other, So will see how they shoot, Gosh that 26 runs thru my powder measure like silk , lot better than the RL25 even! Will chrono them to see what they say outta that little 20" barrel , hoping to see nearly 3K ???

I'll be looking forward to seeing what sorta speeds you get E. It's a very good powder so far. It's working in a whole bunch of my cartridges.

Well the results are in, 57.5 avg 2830, and 58 gr 2875fps............................ so will keep trying,

35, if rl26 is slower than rl22 you probably need to go up about four grains to get above 3000fps. Also I use a fed 215 primer for any load of slow burning powder in a .270.

Your not too far off E. Keep going up. Even 2900 or so with a slick 140 is going to hold the energy and FPS out to where you need it too.

How did they shoot?

Don't really know as was just shooting them at a big rock at the high water line at 500yds and it was hitting right were it should ................. but didn't even try them on a target.
By the way the 120gr Speers out of the 25 Whelen were avg over 3150fps with the RL25, so I am very happy with those numbers!

Good deal. Not surprised at all. RL25 has worked really well for me in the 25-06 in the past. 26 is doing pretty well now too.

I'd bet you'll get what your looking for with 26. It's coming out pretty nicely with the QL data I've ran for myself.

There was a nice jump in velocity from 57.5 to 58. 45 fps gain looks pretty good to me. A little more jet fuel just might get close to 3000. It will be interesting to see what happens for sure.

Loaded another lot with 58.5 and 59grs RL 26 today and was surprised how much more room there was left in the PPU cases compared to R/P cases .............. ALOT more. Anyway will chrono them soon!!

Well 58.5 seamed to avg 2930 or so, the 59 gr loading 10 shot avg was 2980, but four of them did break 3k, one shot for what ever reason? Was at 3080??? The other 3 highest were 3021, 3011, 3004.............and there was a 2999! Lol
Anyway I guess there may have been a overcharge in one? I was just throwing them with a powder measure, not weighing every charge........... the temperature was 28 degrees, with 91% humidity. I am not seeing any sign of high preasure, primers look fine. I am guessing I am going to run out of room before I run into preasure problems?
This must be the powder Hornady uses in their Superperformance! Cant imagine getting these numbers with anything else? Thank You Scotty!! (y)

Good going. Looks like RL-26 is another nice option for the .270. 3000 with no press.signs from a 20 inch barrel is eye opening.

Hot dog E! A 140 at 3 grand out of a 20" pipe is no joke! Your results with RL 26 are going to have me going back to the drawing board with some load development when I get back. I'm thinking 3050 plus with 140 ABs and the kiddos' 24" barrels should be a snap and am hopeful to get 3K out of my 24" barreled 270 with the 150 ABLR. I look forward to hearing more from your results!

Joe

E, just my observations with the 243, 90 ABs and 26. I was able to hit 3400 really easily, Cases popped right out, no mysterious marks or other signs but according to the data I was probably in the red zone. I'm not sure what the data says that I sent to you, but just be careful going forward, if you do as 26 must have a flatter PSI curve that isn't showing up as readily. If your getting 3000 with the 140, which was your goal and the data backs it up I'd probably stay around there. Not sure if anything bad could/would happen. The 243 was about 62K at 3300 so I knew when 3400 popped on the screens it was too much even though the gun took it without a hiccup. Just my thoughts from what I've seen so far.
