Anybody have any info on these magic pills? I haven't been able to get much out of accuracy from these. I have a pile I'm going to load up with my 9 twist 7RM, looking at either H1000 or H4831, seem to be best bet with these two. I have RL23 also, with 22 also, 7828 and Retumbo. 72-72.5 seemed alright, but not they turned in different results with two different trips to the range, other than that, haven't tried the others. I'm thinking about loading up some 4831, unsure of which data to use since Hodgdons site lists drastically different charges for Barnes (pure copper, which is similar to the Swift copper) and the Partition with it's alloy copper (I believe..)

Seems like everywhere states they like to jump so plan on .100" off to begin with and find a charge that will work and fiddle with the depth as needed. First time going with these pills, I got about 600 from Grafs 60 sale a month ago. My 180 ELD-M test didn't go as planned, going to try these for hunting this year, unless I decide to use the 6.8

Thanks in advance!

I have had very good luck with H4831SC and RL22 and the Scirocco. Both powders yielded sub MOA loads at good velocities. I note that I allowed a pretty good jump to the lands with these bullets.

Hope this helps.

I have both H4831 and SC, so I think I'll try standard first to check case fill. I like the velocity for RL19 but I'm not sure about temp swings. I only have one pound of the 19, but it's easy to get more.

Any idea how deep you had luck Mike?

That's extremely useful info Tjay, thank you very much.

I know there's special loading techniques for pure copper, I just don't know them that well.

My standard for any bonded-core bullet is 0.100 inches off the lands. I had one load worked up for a client that required 0.250 inches off the lands. That was an extreme situation, to put it mildly. I have no instance (other than that one exception) in which I was more than 0.120 inches off the lands.

Fwiw, I'm jumping the same bullet 110 in my 7 RM.
I don't have the exact info with me but I think I was right around 65 gr of H4831. IIRC speed was high 2900s to 3000.
Seriously accurate though.

DWH that's what I'll work towards. I'm thinking 3000 should be relatively easy with my 26" tube. 100 jump will do for sure. Once I hit 3000 I'll probably call it.

As for pure copper, clean bore or slightly fouled? I've shot about 8-10 ELDs through it since 12 Scirocco shots from clean bore.

I shot through a clean bore, though a moderately fouled bore made no significant difference in accuracy. My tube is 24 inches, and I generated ~2990 - 3070 fps.

I am with Mike and Dewey here. I will start the Scirroco's at .050 to do the powder charge work, but in my 25-06, old 7mm Rem, and something else I am forgetting about I ended up at the .125" from the rifling.

Any of the powders you listed will work great. H4831, RL22, 7828, and H1000 would be my picks though.

I don't find the bonded/mono's to be particularly hard to find accuracy for nowadays. Just know they wanna jump, and most will get really good as the distance gets further from the rifling. I struggled at first though.. Used to burn through bullets before I learned to make big jumps.

Then a reshoot at .125" off

Went to the range today, had loaded up some H4831 .100" off the lands. Wanted to do a very quick down and dirty test, check velocity and see if it got anywhere close to what I was looking for. I loaded 63-66 just for velocity, three shots of each. Results were surprising. I didn't bring my notebook with me, so I used a receipt to jot down the velocity, sorry.

Not bad results. I'm torn between speed and raw accuracy..

Always take the accuracy if the velocity is sufficient to bring down your game.

63@2925 fps looks like it would do it all ! Your gun likes everything about that loading. And hey you don't do bad either! Nicely done. (y)

I think what I'll do is try 63 again, and load up 66.5 and 67 grains. If 63 repeats and neither 66.5/67 preform under 3/4", then I'll stick with my 1/4moa load and know my rifle will last a long time for a 7RM. Only thing I worry about is these are shot at 80 degrees. Hunting season is 15-45 in Maine, which could get that 2925 down in the high 2800's. At that point, it makes me wonder..

I do know that I'm going to find a Savage short action to do a tight twist 7mm-08 to shoot those 180 ELD-M's in for hunting. Should make a great 250 and in compliment, and if I do that then I'd rather my RM carry the energy harder for out to 500.. things to consider..

I think you have a great plan. That 63 grain load looks great.

I wouldn't worry about H4831 losing that much speed. It's pretty resistant to temp swings.

Tried 66-67gr. 66.0 looked pretty similar to the last test, 66.5 opened up and then bam, 67.0. I'm going to take it another day to the range, and if it repeats, chrono it and load up a few boxes for hunting season and call it a day.

Looks pretty good from here. I do believe you have a load that'll work.
