I just purchased a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I am thinking about using either Laupa or Peterson small rifle primer brass. Will I need to change the firing pin or will the factory pin work properly?

Thank you
Mike

You will want to get your bolt bushed to use the small rifle primers. Gre Tan does that.

Bolt Brushed?
Huh?

I’ve got SRP .260 brass at home along with my .260Regular R700, & I was planning on working with over the holidays.

The bolt is a PT&G, if that matters.

It's bushed , not brushed. Switching from a large rifle primer to use a small rifle primer can have issues on some rifles such as primer piercing, and continuous piercings will have craterings on your bolt face and damage it, and its not safe when it happens.

I see now: my Mistake.

My 700 has a PTG bolt: has anyone tried this combination & had issues?

In the article you linked, buying a PTG Bolt was 1 recommendation.

No way I’d ever go back to a small rifle perimeter 6.5mm rifle. I had all kinds of issues in cold weather with my 6.5x47. I tried several different Primers, but I still had hangfires and erratic velocity/accuracy issues when it was below about 20 degrees.

There’s nothing wrong with the regular Creed set-up.

Good choice. Zero demonstrated advantage to SR-primer Creedmoor cases that I've seen, but I've read of issues, and even experienced them in specific, limited combinations.

I'd not mess with SR primed 6.5 CM brass with the Alpha Munitions brass costing the same and being of extremely high quality. Only thing I have seen so far that matches or exceeds Lapua in the cases they offer. Plus, they are made in America which does count for me when I can do it.
