Short barrel 22-250 loads?

My son recently purchased a Howa Ranchland in 22-250 with the lightweight 20" barrel, 1 in 12" twist. Any load suggestions or data regarding velocity of various loads? I have a bunch of various bullets on hand, as well as a few powders that should (or might) work, including IMR-4064, 8208XBR, Accurate 2015 and 2460, Ramshot TAC and Big Game, Hodgdon Varget, H-414 and H-335. Early testing showed potential with the Speer 50 gr TNT and 34.0 gr of IMR-4064 , as well as the Nosler 55 gr Tipped. Varmageddon. Appreciate any input, or quickload data. Thanks in advance.

Varget and 4064 would be primo. I used A2460 in the past with a 22-250, and even though it is considered too fast it shot well for me. 55s work pretty well for that twist rate, but it was really designed around 50s.

Thanks for the reply. I was pretty surprised by the chronograph results of my initial loads. Not sure if make the muzzle blast/flash of the 20" barrel was affecting the chronograph, but the 50 gr TNT loads with 34 gr of IMR-4064 clocked under 3,000 fps. Nosler's data had indicated over 600 fps faster out of their 24" Lilja test barrel. Hard to believe there would be 150 fps velocity loss per inch of barrel! Also it would appear that Nosler's data is conservative for that load, given that my Lyman No. 49 shows a maximum load of 37.0 gr of IMR-4064 with the 50 gr Sierra Blitz vs. Nosler's max of 34.5 gr. I plan to work up .5 gr at a time and see if it can do a little better. PPU factory 55 gr loads tripped the screens at around 3350 fps vs the advertised 3680 fps. I can see losing 50 fps per inch of barrel, so I am hoping to get the 50 gr bullets up around 3400 to 3500 fps. Otherwise, my son would just as soon shoot a long barreled .223 Rem.

600fps difference sounds like something else was going on. You won’t lose that much velocity with a 4” shorter barrel
