Took the 280 to the range this morning and ran some 139 gr Hornady BTSP Interlock bullets with IMR-4831. This is the second time out with the bullet seated .010 deeper than the last load I tried and the accuracy greatly improved.

You're getting in the zone. The 139 grain Hornady has been a favourite in several .280s for many years. With my first two .280s, I would guess that I took more deer with that particular bullet than with any other bullet. It dropped both mule deer and whitetails at distances from 40 yards to ~300 yards, always accomplishing the task with aplomb. It seemed very easy to find an acceptable load with that bullet. I used a lot of IMR-4831, though I did switch in later years to WMR and WXR. I still have a supply of WMR and WXR, so I still load up 139 grain Hornady BTSPs for my Winchester Featherweight chambered in .280.

Nice shooting.
Yup, the 280 is a smooth shooter.

Very nice. Great shooting rifle right there!

I’ve heard that 139 Hornady is a good one.

Looks good so far, always thought the 280 was a fantastic round just as good as the 270 and 30-06.

Nice looking group!
I always liked the 162 gr Interloc in the 280 Rem myself and had great groups with IMR4350 and IMR 4831 (don't recall loads at this moment). My current 280 (customized Model 700 XCR LH) shows a liking for the 140 gr AccuBonds and 145 gr Barnes LR bullets so far and did not like the loads tried so far with the 150 gr LRAB.

I’ve got loads made up for it with 140 gr Partitions, Accubonds, Ballistic Tips and Barnes TTSX. It was so so with 150 and 160 gr bullets. I’m looking into going on a spring Bear Hunt in Montana with a couple guys and will be using this rifle if I go. I’ll more than likely use the Partition if I go.

My first two .280s loved 139/140 grain bullets. They were never great performers with either 150 or 160 grain bullets. My newest .280 shoots the 150 grain ABLR very well--blistering velocities and superb accuracy. They are each an entity unto themselves.

Love the 280 Rem. Very underrated cartridge which was almost assassinated by its maker (Remington) just like the 6mm rem.

You are correct, Fotis. Two excellent cartridges that should have thrived. Both were nearly killed by marketing geniuses.

I have a great fondness for my 280. It never really got the spotlight it deserves..It's the Peter Brady of the Remington 7mm family, stuck in the middle between its brothers, 7mm Rm and 7-08.
