After my first trip to our local range with my new Sako 85 in 30-06, I was looking for a rundown shack with a sign "Phycologist In 5 cents". Then I decided to make some adjustment of, 1) seating depth, 2) charge weight with powders used before, and 3) new powders. Wow big difference!
The Sako has a 22.4 inch barrel and I used winchester brass and CCI 200 throughout the therapy session.
Seating depth was close to maximum of the magazine or 3.228
I increased my charge of Ramshot hunter from 60.0 to 61.0 grains with 165 grain Interbond, resulting in an average of 2855fps,SD=6.4 and a 1/2 group.
Next a new powder RL-17, 165 grain Interbond, with 56.5 grains that averaged 2877 fps, SD=5.6 and .4 of an inch group.
Another RL-17 load was 56.8 that average 2907 fps, SD of 3.6 and 1/2 group.
An old standby was 180 grain Interbond with 57.0 H4350 which gave an average of 2748 fps, SD=16 and 1/2 group.
I really liked the RL-17 results. Up next, Nosler day at the range.
