Has anyone loaded these yet? I just did a quick work up to try and get some data before I start accuracy testing. I started with 64.0 gr RL23 and went up to 65.2 and stopping, all in .2gr increments.

Data is as follows:

64.0 - 3110
64.2 - 3099
64.4 - 3100
64.6 - 3123
64.8 - 3116
65.0 - 3121
65.2 - 3153

Seems fast to me. I am going to work at 64.3 I think and go seating depth. 26" barrel, Norma fire formed brass, Fed 215s. 50k off the lands.

Brass looked good until 65.0, looked like I got a tiny ejector mark. Weather today was low 40s, similar to hunting weather.

Any experience with these pills as components yet or still too new?

7MM Rem Mag, 160gr Federal Trophy Bonded Tip

Not in a 7mm Mag, but the 140 gr (284) in my 280 was fairly accurate. I used 22, 26 and 19...RL-26 was the best balance of speed and accuracy, but I couldn't get the accuracy I hoped for..I really wanted these to work, so I'll mess them more in the future. I've read where others are getting excellent results with them.

I've been tempted by the 140 grain for my 7mm-08. I looked for data on the Federal website, but they only had it for the 160's in that chambering. Seems to me that if you're offering bullets for reloading, you'd want to offer some data as well...

I think I'm going to use some H1000 and see how it works with my gun and bullets to see if it's just a faster set up or I'm flirting with pressures. See how close I can come to Federal's data.

7MM Rem Mag, 160gr Federal Trophy Bonded Tip

You hit the velocity node (flat spot) very nicely from 64.0-65.0 gr with an ES of 22. They velocity nodes are typically 0.4-0.8 gr in size. RL23 is very temp stable and you're getting very good velocity for a 160gr bullet. I would load what 5 at your planned 64.3gr and check for velocity and ES. Also, load up another 3 and see how it groups. You may have to play with seating depth if you aren't getting the kind of group you want. But, as long as your ES is good, you'll have a very consistent load. Sounds like your load development is pretty close to being done!! I love using a chrono and doing load development this way. It saves a ton of time

I have used Retumbo on my 7 Mag with a 26 inch barrel, its a Sako M995 with a Brux barrel. i pushed the 160 Accubonds up to 3,160 fps, but no pressure signs. But I was wary about going faster since velocity is also a sign of pressure, so I backed off 1 grain to 3,1430 fps. for accuracy,,,, .5 MOA @ 100 yards. Retumbo has shot best with the heavies.

I went out and tested 64.3, two three shot groups at 100 yards netted about 1.25", sp I think with the bullet seated in a little further I can tighten it up. Going to swy away .075" and .100", do a three shot group and see what happens next. Hard to find the time right now. I'll get the info though.

Just to close the loop, I'm giving up on these bullets. I tried different seating, different powder charges, I cleaned the barrel, switched to H1000, nothing under 1.25". I switch to the 180 ELD-M in a middling load of H1000 and consistently get .25moa groups.

I can decide today what I'm going to be hunting, as the Maine moose draw is today. If I get selected, no worries I'll use a 338-06, or buy something new. If I don't, the wife wants to send me out on an elk hunt with her dad, and I'll get to work on either buttoning up my 7mm 150 Swift Scirocco loads or 175 ABLR.

So far I have had great luck with the 130’s with RL26 in my 270 Winchester and 140’s in my little brothers 270 Win with H4831SC. My little brother is a new loader and seated them at 3.260 and had a consistent 2-1 but hovering right around an inch. We shortened it to 3.250 and had very consistent 3/4” groups at 100 and Sub 2” groups at 250. I haven’t taken mine longer yet but I like the Bullets.

Sounds like mixed reviews on the Trophy bonded bullet, both here and on Midway USA. Still, I have a new to me .270 that I think I'll try the 130's with. Never had a .270, but that stoutly built 130 would do the trick on most anything I think. Might have to buy a box of Sierras and/or Noslers too just so I have a baseline on what the gun can do first. Never know what you'll get with a new/used gun. Thanks for the info on this bullet. Good, bad or otherwise, it's always nice to have the info.

I haven't found them particularly different than any other bonded bullet. Load data provided on the box has them seated pretty danged short so that is where we started in my little brothers 270. It might not be a bad place to start to be honest. They seemed to shoot pretty decent right out of the gate. I have the 7mm and 308 versions as well but haven't done anything with them yet. I do like the bullets, seem like a well made bullet for BG hunting. It'd be nice to see some 6.5 bullets.

I was .010" longer than their recommended COAL, so extremely close, was about .078" short of the lands. When I switched to H1000, two three shot groups gave the same results, one at about 1oclock, next two over an inch away touching at the 11. Shot the same target, same results 15 minutes apart.

I've got some 180 Hunting VLDs coming, we'll see what they do at 300 and hopefully get to 2925, and I'll call it a day.

I've taken a lot of game with rifles that only ran about 2" (leverguns/muzzleloaders) and many centerfires that ran no better than 1.5, some around 1.25". I'm sure you can too and just want all the accuracy you can get, but you really don't have a "bad load" with any 7mm 160 Premium going 3100 fps at 1.25"...don't be so hard on yourself, just be sure and have fun! :)

I would like to give the 140 gr Trophy Bonded a try in my 270 Win. I'll keep on watching this thread with interest.

That's what my little brother is loading in his 270 Win for elk this fall. I have pretty high hopes for it so far.

As I have mentioned in a previous post in regards to the Trophy Bonded bullet I use the 180 grain .30 caliber version in my .300WM. RL 26 is the propellent and I can tell you 7/8" 3 shot 100 yard groups had me smiling. At 200 yards just under 1 1/2 inches. Obviously this is my next Elk load.

Here is a 130 grain 270 I fired into some water jugs. The first jug was a rather robust detergent jug. The range was 100 yards. The same test shredded a 168 grain .30 cal Ballistic Tip. I would have no qualms about using these for elk in my 270 Win.
