Well I ran some IMR 4831 thru my 25-06 5he other day to see just how it compared to the 7978. Everything is the same as the great I did with the 7977 except the powder. Wasn't real happy with the speed it produced and accuracy wast all that great either.
Here's what I ended up with.
1. 49gr IMR 4831- 2908fps / 2923fps / 2977fps
2. 50gr IMR 4831- 3012fps / 2990fps / 3019fps
3. 51gr IMR 4831- 3166fps / 3070fps / 3080fps. ( online book MAX)
4. 51.5gr IMR 4831- 3145fps / 3111fps.
5. 52gr IMR 4831- 3160fps / 3142fps. This is where I stopped.
There was room to keep going with this powder I had nothing that indicated pressure issues. Little strange was that the 115 nosler ballistic tip max out in the reloading data post on the nosler site at 52gr of IMR 4831..

It looks pretty good to me on speed.

And yep, if it were me I’d try .050, .075 and .100 with the Accubonds. One of those will jump out at you.

Looks like good speed, Scotty gave you great advice on seating depth. Fairly often they have want a pretty good jump to shoot well.

So what do you guys think about the metering of IMR7977 through a RCBS Uniflo?
Is it sticky like IMR4831? or smooooother ... would love that!

The numbers you're getting Yoda seem interesting,
e.g. if I knock off 40fps per inch from my shorter 22" barrel, that's 3 x 40=120fps less.
Makes your 110gn AB choice around 70fps faster than I get currently using 53gns IMR4831 & helpful at longer range I think.
But, may be detrimental for meat damage at shorter range? (Unless neck shot- not an issue for me)

What do you think? is it worth it?
I have to make powder choices in view of the crappy bureaucratic banning of some US propellants that don't meet the EU 'REACH' standards.
At present IMR4831 & IMR4350 are available here, but no replenishment coming in.
Currently most dealers here aren't importing many powders from the US because they don't know what's banned here, so getting the usual stuff is much much more difficult.

Elmer I have some IMR 4831 on the shelf that was my go to powder for my 25. In my opinion it is quite a bit more "sticky" than the 7977. It's not been a problem in my uniflow but I also don't throw a full charge for my 25 with it cuz I'm work on the edge with it all the time. And now you've sparked my interest in trying it with those accubonds just to see what if any velocity difference there will be. Might take me a bit cuz I'm heading back up north next week but I'll post it up when I do it. It will also give me a chance to see if the 7977 really does help with retarding copper fouling. Because I get very little right now but that could be the barrel quality I'm now using compared to the shot out factory barrel I was used to cleaning..

Very interested in this as you're working with one of my favorite cartridges.

I've long since settled into two loads for my Rem 700 with the factory 24" barrel:

100 gr & H4350 for 3340 fps

115 gr Ballistic Tip & Retumbo for 3120 fps

Interestingly, a couple of other 115 gr bullets, the Partition and the Berger VLD, both hit 3190 - 3200 fps with Retumbo, but I got pressure signs I didn't like when I tried scooting the Ballistic Tip that fast.

I've not yet tried 7977, your results are interesting! Thanks. Kinda envious of your fancy new custom barrel...

Hi Yoda, I have to say copper fouling in my own barrel is very low and IMR4831 has always given better MV (3,120fps/53gns IMR4831) with the 110gn AB bullet. Metering it is a pain though & a trickler essential.

I seat the 110gn AB .040” from the lands & invariably accuracy is .025” MOA @ 100yds.

Guy your numbers with these powders are very close to my own findings...but hey, I’m only field testing with a Chrony, so the results are far from lab. test accuracy but good enough for me to work with.

Yoda, your test loads fit with what I found with 7977 and the 25-06. Scotty's advice on seating depth might just be the ticket for pulling that one off shot.
both of my 25-06's are 22" barrels. Using the AccuBond a .1 off the lands in one and .75 in the other I'm seeing right at 3200 down to 3150 on the two. Accuracy is around .75" or better (when I hold my mouth right).

Finally had a chance to work up some loads with 7977 in my 25-06. Worked up loads with 2 bullets, the speer 100gr spbt #1408 and the nosler 110gr AccuBond: the gun, Remington 700 with a 25 inch bartlin #3 barrel: new Winchester 30-06 Cases necked down to 25. And WLR primers. And IMR 7977.
COL for the speer bullet 3.170 (.003 off the lands)
COL for the nosler bullet 3.200 (.030 off the lands)
These loads are safe in my gun its your responsability to work to your guns limit.
These loads where to fire form the brass to my chamber and see where I'm at for max loads for my gun. Some loads are over book max.....
First the speer 100gr spbt stock#1408.
57gr--7977-- 1. 3176fps--2. 3166fps
59gr--7977-- 1. 3294 fps--2. 3358fps
60gr--7977-- 1.3411fps-- 2. 3394fps-- 3. 3408fps
61gr--7977-- 1. 3412fps-- 2. 3422fps-- 3. 3418fps THIS IS HODGDON MAX LOAD.BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!
61.5gr--7977--1. 3490fps-- 2. 3534fps--3. 3467fps
62gr--7977-- 1. 3525fps--2. 3562fps-- 3. 3506fps Pretty stout and on the edge for me gun.
For the AccuBond I used the load data off hodgdon site for the 117gr sierra bullet as a starting point.
58gr--7977-- 1. 3269fps-- 2. 3294fps
59gr-7977-- 1. 3330fps-- 2. 3340fps--3. 3330fps * will use this one.
59.5gr--7977-- 1.3388fps-- 2. 3329fps-- 3. 3375fps
These readings are 10 feet off the end of the muzzle.
All and all both bullets shot pretty good all around a 1 inch ..
The AccuBond shot ok also every 3 round group the second shot opened the group's up to about a inch and a half the others 2 bullet in the group where also most touching ..... go figure..
All and all I'll be working with the 100gr speer at 61gr of powder but not much.
The AccuBond I'm going to play with the seating depth a bit with the 59gr of powder...
Does the AccuBond need a longer jump Before hitting the lands ? First time ive loaded this bullet

Might have to try it from my 257 Bee

For the bee you might want to check out the newest imr powder 8133 I think it is
