So, now I’m scratching my head. I took my measurements for smk to lands.2.795. Saami says OAL is 2.860. If I load the SMK at 2.860, I can’t come close to feeding a round into the chamber until it’s down to 2.795. Should I give it 0.02” less?

I didn’t expect this. The ogive is differentfron nbt.

Once I receive my 300 WSM I plan to try this at around 73.0-73.5 grains with the 165 BT for a "light" deer load. I also plan to try the Re26 with 180 gr. AB and 190 gr. ABLR for an elk load.

I’ll set up a ladder test and run the through the chrono. See what I have for accuracy nodes.

Any thoughts on the OAL for the SGK being short compared to Saami?

Reloading manuals indicate various OAL's for their test loads depending on the cartridge and bullet combination. Often those test OALs are shorter than the SAAMI max. length. I used the QL default OAL for this cartridge. In some previous QL projections that DrMike did for me small changes in OAL didn't seem to have dramatic effects on velocity and barrel time (for large capacity bottle neck rifle cartridges). However, I can rerun the projections if you provide a specified OAL. Better yet, if you can load and shoot a few rounds and then provide us with:

- Overflow water capacity of the fired/unresized cases. (an input variable)
- powder used.
- bullet used.
- velocities measured with specific charge weights. (to adjust the burning rate).
- OAL that you used.
- barrel length of your rifle.

Then we can run QL projections that are more specific to your rifle and more specific to your batch of powder and therefore provide more accurate projections. Personally, I do this first before running the ladder test since I can design the ladder test with more accurate information.

I’ll do that Dan. The ladder test I set was with new cases. I just resized 18 cases, which means a little shoulder bump. I need to find some more RL26. Have 15-20 rounds of powder left. Good stuff. Ready to buy 4 or 8 #
