Retired now and lots of time so I put together some 180 grain E-Tip loads for the 8 Mag.
If they shoot okay I think they should work well on elk. Will wait for some cooler weather to try them out.
Went with the Nosler recommended starting dose of IMR 7828.
I was going to ladder up a bit, but this was compressed quite a bit without using a longer drop tube so I will see how these shoot.

Oh those rounds look great, I do miss my 8mm mag. I used 200 tsx and 220 hornady bullets. I'll be curious to see how they shoot.

There is no question but that the big 8 will perform quite well for you, and I don't doubt that the 180 grain E-Tip is capable of providing excellent service. I did a little work with the big 8 some years ago, but I've settled on the 325 WSM and the 8X68S for my 8mm fix. I do enjoy the calibre. Wouldn't hesitate to grab a big 8 if the opportunity presented itself.

Those look pretty danged good!

Might have to go to something a little faster with the 180's if you are getting compressed loads? No clue but definitely a cool cartridge!
