Would somebody be kind enough to run a QL on the following:

R22
Retumbo

7 Rem Mag
Fed 215
WW Case
180 Eldm at 3.460 OAL
26" barrel

Would appreciate it much. Guessing Retumbo will be the better powder of the 2 but have a keg of R22 so would like to try it also.
Thanks

Dr.Mike,

I have been hording;) so I have several hundred 175gr ABLR's and 8lbs of RL33 for my 7mmRemMag. I have a 26" Criterion 1:8 barrel. Do you think that RL33 would work with the above??

It would essentially be the same data for the OP's since he's using a 180gr bullet.... I would think.

What do you think of RL33 Powder in general?

Thanks!

Just might work.

I haven't worked up any loads with RL33, but I'd sure be willing to give it a try. The pressure curve looks rather interesting.

PS: what powder weight would you start at?

For my first test pack, how heavy a charge would you load?

RL33 looks like it could be a good match for the 175gr....THANKS AGAIN!

Thanks Dr Mike!

Looks like Retumbo can add 50-75 fps at the same pressure levels; with obviously more fill/compression. See if rifle has a preference based on accuracy.

I normally start testing at a charge that is at least 5% below max charge weight. In this instance, I'd likely start no higher than around 70.5 grains and work up.

I use Retumbo with 160 Accubonds in mine, no powder shake once seated and it does move the mail at 3,140 fps.

Retumbo should do well with the 175 - 180's.

I am definitely going to take your advice;)

So now for my 1st test box, would you think a good start is that I load say, (5) five shot groups, starting at 70.5gr and going up in 1/2gr increments until/if I see pressure signs, and at the same time see what kind of groups I get?

Just wondering the best way to get started;)

I start with 3 rounds at each charge weight personally. Saves me time, components and barrel wear. My thoughts are that if it doesn't shoot good with 3 shots, 2 more isnt going to help. 5 shot groups after I find something that looks good.
