load up my 7STW with 160 accubonds

Hello guys,
I have a great load using 140 TTSX and IMR7828ssc but wanted to try shooting some 160's accubonds. I started at 72 grains of IMR7828ssc and worked up to 76 grains shooting three shot groups moving up 1 grain at a time. I was shooting off a magnum gun rest at 100 yards. 71 to 74 loads were about 1.5 inch triangle patters. when I got to 75, 75.5 and 76 I would get 2 shots almost touching and the 3rd about 1.75 inches away. the length of the cartridge is the length of the magazine which I cant remember off the top of my head. At this point do I want to seat the bullet deeper using the loads that were 75 thru 76 grains of IMR7828ssc? Sorry for the redundant question I have seen people ask this before but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for using the search feature.

I would try seating deeper.

SOP as provided to me: "If the groups is a large equilateral triangle, seat the bullets out a 1/4 turn on the die and repeat until the group shrinks. If the group is 2 together with the 3rd out there, seat the bullet deeper in the same manner, a 1/4 turn at a time and the group will shrink."

if you're at magazine length , and want to feed from the mag , yes you can only go one way to try and fine tune with seating depth . that is shorter .

Agree with both posters above. In addition I have noted the best seating depth for ABs to be at least 0.05 off the lands, with several great groups at 0.075 off.

In my limited experience with the AccuBond it does like to jump a ways to the lands. I am 20 thousands off the lands with the 130 gr in my 264 Win mag. I really like the AB at these high velocities, 3350 fps, bullet works the same from 25 yards to a touch over 500 yards. Goes in expands and exits with a quarter size hole and deer are DRT. If the AccuBond had been around years ago when the 7STW first came as a wildcat and I helped my buddy fool around with one that he had made by running the STW chamber reamer into a Rem 700 in 7 Rem mag I may have done the same thing to the 7 mag I had. Back then the best over all bullet we found for deer was the 154 Hornady Interlock. Anything lighter just exploded on impact inside 200 yards. We were doing crop damage control so shots were from in your lap to at the edge of the horizon. For those 300 yard plus shots where the bullet has slowed down the 139 Hornady and 140 ballistic tip worked really well. They sure shot flat. The 160 gr Sierra Game King did better at long range as for wind than the lighter bullets. The barrel in my buddies rifle did not last really long but who knows how many rounds of 7 Rem Mag had been shot through it before he extended the chamber to STW.

I’d seat deeper a 1/4 turn at a time with the ABs. I’ve been able to walk that 3rd flier in quite a few times.

Thanks guys for replying. I checked the length and my loads were at 3.690 and I seated them down to 3.60 and loaded up a few and with give it a try. I am also dusting off my chrono and see what the speed is. my load with 140 ttsx are 3350 so I am curious to see the speed of the 160's I hoping for around 3100.

76 grains of 7828 runs about 3150 in my STW, 74 grains is my sweet spot and runs about 3080. SubMOA all day. You will be right where you want with your load[emoji106][emoji106]

I run 77.0grs of Reloader-22 with 160gr Accubonds in my 7STW.My velocity is right at 3200fps.My rifle shot around 1/2" with that load so I stopped right there.My experience with IMR-7828 is I need go one more grain to get the same or close to what I get with Reloader-22,so I would go 78.0grs in my rifle.I need to try some Reloader-26 since I now have some.I think I can get 3225-3250fps with that powder.I think 79.0 -80.0grs will do it.

Here is some load and pressure data done by Rick Jamison.I think his rifle only has a 24" barrel.The 7STW does much better with a 26 or 28" barrel.
