I built a rem 700 with a Mcgowen remage barrel in 35 whelen. I am just getting setup to reload 35 whelen. The specified OAL is 3.340. I measured the factory ammo that I have been using and it is 3.092. I measured my chamber using the hornady OAL guage and it measured around 3.25. Am I measuring something wrong? Why are my numbers so far off?

I think your gauge should measure base to ogive, not OAL, right?

Here’s the SAAMI measurements for the Whelen:

Depends on the bullet. Some like a 225 AccuBond May stretch out past 3.34 while others with a forward Ogive will touch sooner.
