My buddy wants help developing a load for the 130 gr. TTSX. It will primarily be for mule deer and cow elk.

Open to powders and any insight you may have used or recommend. I have used H4831 with great success in my 270’s.

Thoughts?

Medium burn rate powders perform very well with that weight bullet. I'm getting excellent results with my 270 WSM loaded with 130 grain E-Tip and charged with RL17. Don't see why such a combo wouldn't work well with the 270 Win.

DrMike is correct!
The 4831's work extremely well, along with Alliant RL-22.
With heavier bullets, some say 7828 works well too.

The Barnes 130 gr TTSX bullet should make the .270 good for all the game range a .270 can handle, as in thin skinned, non-dangerous game up to moose.
If you get it pushing to 3100 fps, you're good all the way out to 400-450 yds for elk and moose.
Happy loading, and hunting!

H4831....4831 and the 270 are like apple pie and vanilla ice cream.

I've done some great work ups with 145-150gr bullets and H4350 and IMR4955.

Re17 was the go to powder for my wife’s 130gr TTSX load. It’s running 3025fps with extremely good accuracy. It worked great on this large cow moose, one of the quickest and cleanest moose kills I’ve ever witnessed, complete pass thru, dropped at the spot.

Norma MRP, RL26.. 2 awesome powders for the 270 Win.. Should be able to get into the high 3100's safely.
Take Care
