I like my Henry color case hardened .45-70 very much, so I decided it needed a little sister. Henry came out with a CCH model in the pistol calibers, so I'm in the process of buying one in .45 Colt. Primarily as a "woods gun" for deer, with shots out to about 100 yards max. Also for some plinking, as it will be cheaper to load for than the .45-70.
I'm intending to use the Speer 260gr JHP bullet and H110 powder. According to the Hodgdon data, the load of 23.5-24.0gr generates about 1350fps from a 7" pistol barrel. From a 20" rifle, I'm expecting 1500-1600fps.
Anybody loading .45 Colt in a rifle, particularly using this powder/bullet combo? Any thoughts, recommendations, etc.?
