I finally got around to trying out my BA Salt Bath Annealing Kit. It worked out just as advertised. It took the salt about 20 minutes to settle in at 500 C° at the 5.5 setting on the lee melter pot.

Initially it was annealing a Lott further down on the cartridge than I liked and I made two spacers out of some spare 30-30 brass to get it right where I wanted it.

The Kit was easy to use and the results turned out great. I was doing 5 seconds at 500 C°. The proof will be in the shooting though. I’m going to do a batch of 22 creedmoor off Hornady brass and compare with some virgin brass. I’m hoping it results in more consistent neck tension and possibly better accuracy.

Fired and polished 308 Lapua brass and virgin 338 RCM. They definitely look annealed.

No simple annealing, to soften and uniform the metallurgy of the brass. Same as flame annealing but instead of a torch it uses high temp liquid salts
