I know this is probably beating a dead horse, but does anyone have any .280 Remington Quick Load data for a 24 inch barrel, using 140, 150, 160, and 175 gr bullets?
I ordered a Thompson Center Venture .280 Remington.
I've been reading about the virtues of this amazing cartridge, and it is so appealing to me. The range of bullet weights, and it's within spitting distance of the 7mm Rem Mag, without all the recoil, and muzzle blast.
It's better in external performance than the .270, and almost equals the .30-06 in power down range, but shoots so much flatter than the .30-06.
I've always heard of the virtues of the .270, and .30-06, but none from the .280 Remington.
Also, I dare say, that the .280 is a much better long range performer than the.....(GASP) 6.5 Creedmoor!
I've noticed that most of the factory loads stay supersonic until about 1200 yards, or a little longer.
Any hand load data will help.
Thank you in advance.

There is a sticky in the Reloading section under Quickload questions thread page 9 about 3/4 down the page. Posted by Dwh7271 a while back, the 280 Rem data is after 7mm-08 and before 300 WSM. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30761&start=200

Hope this helps!

My 280 really likes 139g/140g bullets with IMR 4350. I agree it is a great cartridge.

AFG270,

Thank you for the Keen eye.
I did finally see them, but alas, they were only for 150 gr bullets.
I gladly copied the info for them, though.

RL26 is going to get you too speed with all of them I’d bet.

I know for a fact RL26 will run a 140 at 3150 and be very accurate.

Twist rate, and magazine space will be the limiting factors.

Thank you for the info, it's greatly appreciated.
I believe that the Venture has a 1-10 twist rate. It only holds 3 standard cartridges in its inline detachable magazine.

Scotty, you are right, RL26 is gives amazing speed. With 150g ELD-X I got just over 3000 fps with a 24" barrel, but could never get them under an 1 1/2", could be the twist. I tried them from .015" to .075" off the lands and everything in between with no luck. I just started working on some 160g Partitions with RL26 and they look very promising at right around 2950 fps. My rifle is shooting 139g GMX over IMR 4350 at just under 2950 fps and puts them in the same hole at 100 yards. I might try those GMX's with RL26, if I could get the same accuracy, 3100+ fps would be awesome.

Hawkeye, what bullet were you thinking of trying first?

AFG270,

I was thinking on trying a 139/140 bullet at first.
But you're getting excellent speed at 3000 fps or a little more with a 150 gr bullet!

My .280 is a custom based on a 1909 Argentine (DWM) with a 24" barrel. So far, my best load uses a now long discontinued powder (WMR),the 160 gr. old style Speer Grand Slam Winchester nickel plated bras and WLR primer. Velocity average runs right at 2910 FPS and most groups .75" or slightly less. There may be an ill fated elk come next December. (y)
