I have owned several .270s through the years. I have loaded for other guy's .270s too. It seemed that every one of them "just did not like" anything over 140gr either! That's fine as we all know a 140/3000fps is pretty awesome, ha. However, when I went back to the Mod 700 Classics, I knew I would be getting long throats in them. I owned a lot of late 70's and 80's Mod 700s and they all ran on the long side, at lest mine did! I've never owned a Classic in either .270W nor 338WM until now. Both have the long throats. Sweet. I started out playing with 110 Sierra's and 130 Hornady SP just for coyotes/rocks in desert kind of loads. I still got great accuracy with the 110s making a really long jump. The 130s can be seated way out and 62gr H4831 was its best. But the best news is "this rifle loves the 150s/160!

R26/160 and N560/150PT were awesome. This is the first .270W I ever owned that shot them this well, much less this fast. These are still under 65K, according to QL. I am going to play with them some more, further out and see if they hold their accuracy. I have had some long bullets that opened up further out at 300+.

Glad to hear your Classic's in 270 Win and 338 are shooting so well, those two cover anything in North America and almost anything else worldwide.

I have only had three 270 Win's but two of them loved the 160 gr Partition the best! My current gun sure likes it along with the 150 gr Ballistic Tip and 150 gr Speer Hot Cor. The other shot the 150 gr Deep Curl well. In the 270 I have now it has never seen a bullet under 140 gr and it will likely stay that way.

My limited experience with a 150 in the 270 is with the Sierra 150 BTSP and Reloader 22. At 100 yards it produced a 4 shot group close to .75"

I've heard guys having great results with Reloader 23 and 26 as well.

That sounds like a great pair of loads. Love the 150's in the 270's with RL26..

The 150 PT/270 has always caught my interest from what others have reported, same with the 160. That soft nose on both them makes them ideal for mule deer, IMO, especially at hard angles or breaking them down. a classic lung shot is what I always try for on deer though. I am still going to see if this rifle likes the 110TTSX as it holds an interest for me. Its long enough to work well in this rifle as well. Seems like it would be a fine one on antelope does w/o bruising them up bad. The "worst" bullets/rounds I used on antelope was a 300WM and an early 180 NBT. Another was the 90 NBT/from a 6mm/284 wildcat. The 6.5/284 did swell with both the 120 PT/NBT and 125/PT. But the 280AI/150NBT did swell also. I hope to draw out on some antlerless, so time will tell!

The R26/160NP is going right at 2930fps and the N560/150PT 2950. This is very warm 280 AI and many 7mm Rem Mag factory loads territory! These newer powders are just awesome, and in a rifle that likes them, puts them up a category, IMO. Heck, at the ranges I hunt, I could just use the 160 load and "pretend" I am carrying a lighter, easier to handle 7mm Rem Mag! :) I could never get accuracy in my 280 AI ( 22" barrel however) with the Speer 160HC past 2800 fps. Its favorite load was a 150NBT going 2950fps too. (Just 50fps more than it did as a standard) I never got past 2950/160PT with my old 24" 7mm Rem Mag 40yrs ago! And for several years it was my only rifle. I used the 150PT at 3200 and a friend used the rifle/160 load on elk, so I know a 160@2950 works on them, ha.

IF you guys had not worked up the QL Data with these powders for me, for this .270, I would have never known to even try them. so thank you so very much!!!:)

Pretty tough to beat those 270 Win loads. You can hunt almost anything worldwide with either of those loads.

You aren’t kidding. Ain’t much of anything I’d worry about with a 150 Partition over 2900. It’s a danged good combo. Might not hit like a 338 but it’ll die just the same. Probably a little more fun to shoot as well.

Actually...its a whole lot more fun to shoot, ha. The 700 Classic 338 is about as light as I would want in an unbraked/unported rifle! So, while it is not "brutal" it is not "fun" either, ha. Just "OK". :)

I had a Weatherby Vangard, 24 in barrel, that had an affinity for 150 gr BT's and RL-22 powder. It would shoot 3/4 inch, sometimes better, depending on operator that particular day. Not sure why I ever sold it!!

I never really ran into any 270W users when I lived in Texas. The few I did were out in Hill Country, and they used the 130gr. Made a lot sense. I was surprised when I moved to Utah and began asking guys what they used. I have spoken directly with a good Bakers Dozen users and they all used the 150gr, for everything. A handful of younger guys at the range used 130/140, usually Barnes or Accubonds. But the older guys, 150 all the way. This could just be a curmudgeon thing, or they just work. Either way, it seems all the handloader guys wanted the "3000fps/150" load. I've read a lot about that velocity range with the 150 on elk, and later on the 140 Failsafe load. In fact, at one time I had an older Belgium made BAR that loved the 140 Failsafe factory ammo, but only shot a jackrabbit and finished off a Spanish goat with it, ha. In a 22" barrel I think 2950 with both the 150/160 is pretty sweet. :)
