Ladder test

How do you guys determine what load to start with when shooting a ladder? I am planning to load some 7mm Rem mag with 150 gr etips and Ramshot Magnum. The tech at Ramshot gave me a starting load of 66 grains to a max of 73.2 grains. I am thinking about starting at 3 grains below max and coming up in .3 grain increments.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, I start at the lowest charge that I would be happy to hunt with. Meaning this, if 66 grains is only 2900 FPS I skip it until I’m in the 3000 or better range then start with the .3 grain increments. I don’t waste my time shooting something I’d not be happy using for hunting.

I do have a Shooting Chrony.

I always like to do a "pre-ladder" test:

Load 6 duplicates from min to max in even increments.
Shoot all over chrony on same target at 100 yards.
Mark each set of duplicates with a line connecting the 2 holes and
Plot the average velocity vs powder charge.
