Thank you very much DrMike, I appreciate your time.

I'm not on the forum as much as I was in the past. Moreover, I'm exceptionally busy any more. Still, when I have a moment, I try to take time to contribute. Glad to help.

Now that you have your QL answer , I will share my range experience from 2 years ago :Bolt action 7mm08 , 22"BL . I followed Alliant's Reloder 17 data as closely as possible : FC brass (178gr weight) ; Fed210 ; 46.0gr Re17 ; OAL 2.793" @ Jump .005" ; Speer145gr BTSP . 2834f/s w/ ES = 10f/s ; Group = 1.266" @ 125 yards (translates to around 3.00" @ 300 yards).
This is a full power Hunting load , and not necessarily a target load ! Key points that I found : Re17 is a Double Base Stick powder . It needs to be compressed slightly to burn fully in a 22" BL . After I Full Length sized the FC brass , the 46.0 gr charge filled the case nearly to the base of the neck. This helped powder ignition. With your larger capacity case, you will need more powder than I did. Recoil was OK for an adult , but maybe not ideal for a youth to hold accurately . If you need a reduced load , see Hodgdon data : the Speer 145gr Flat Base takes 38.5gr H4895 for a start load @ 2599f/s . For bullet expansion test , I would use 4x 1gal jugs full of water @ 200Yards . Look for a nice mushroomed bullet . When my son had his first deer hunt in 1988 , I downloaded the Speer 130gr Flat Base to 2600f/s ; which killed his first deer ! Good Luck. Gary

Thank you all for this very helpful info. She has been shooting 46.5 @2731 fps and I have shot 47.0 as a test for velocity only @2849 fps. This is the vel. range I want to be at, 2800/2900 as she may be hunting in MT this fall, not Maine. I have loaded test loads w/RL 17 from 47 to 48gr half gr increments. also have loads w/RL 19 from 48 to 50gr. Aliants data goes to 51.0C but don't really want to go there. She is a crack shot for sure and very comfortable with firearms.

I've shot that bullet a fair bit in my 7mm-08. It's a nice bullet and a great deal. I was generally able to get it shooting well. Good luck!
