Reloading Accubond Question

Hi everyone, I’m new here and I’d like to ask you all a couple of questions about reloading 180 grain Accubonds in a 300 Win mag. The gun I’m loading for is a Winchester M70 with a 24 inch barrel. I’ve never loaded Accubonds before and I’m in a pinch for time to develop loads. My questions are about bullet jump and best powder. I have read that a lot of people use H1000 but I don’t have any on hand and don’t expect to be able to find any soon. I have H100V and H4831SC and H4350 and a couple others on hand to choose from but no Reloder powders. Between those three powders what does everybody recommend to use behind a 180 green AccuBond? My other question is about bullet jump. I’ve read where people say that Accubonds like a longer job such as .075 to 0.10 inches. What is everyone’s opinion on bullet jump?

Welcome abord! Either H4831 or H4350 should work nicely with the 180gr AccuBond though I would start with H4831sc. It doesn't matter what we want the rifle to like...how your rifle digests the load is what counts.

When it comes to load development with the 180gr AccuBond this bullet likes a looong jump as your research has confirmed.
 
Welcome aboard. You'll find a good group here, and all willing to help. The best powder is, in a broad sense, the one you have available. Keith is correct in pointing you toward H4831SC. QL suggests that H100V might produce the results you need. H4350 will produce the results you seek, as well. I have found that the AB does like a bit of jump to the lands. I usually allow up to 0.100 inch of jump for the most accurate loads.

Green AccuBond? Ballistic tip perhaps?
 
I would use H4350 myself. Seen it in a few different 300 Wins with 180's and 200's. Works great, over 3000 with 180's and mid 2900's with the 200's. Mike is spot on with how I load the AB's as well. I start at .050 and jump further as I go.

I used IMR4350 with 180AB, and basically seated book OAL and got a winner first try.

I never got H1000 working in my WM, but it likes a lot of other powders. Your three powdersare all good in Winmags.

My M70 is a EWS model from I think 2017. Maybe 2016. Pretty sure this was a first attempt.

I did hunt it. Bear looked like it was hit by a freight train. No moans nothing. Just dumped and flattened right out.

Thanks for the great replies. Especially to DrMike for the QL load data table. I've had good results with H100V and Hornady 180 gr Interbonds. I'm interested to see how H4831 will do, though. I think I'll start with a .08 jump and work from there. Maybe I'll get lucky like mjcmichigan and get a winner on the first try!

I've loaded 180s with all three of those powders. We were starting from scratch with a new rifle and just loaded to book length.

H4831 worked really well- a little slow, but the accuracy was excellent. The H100V was the most consistent- SD and ES in the single digits. H4350 got us best MVs.

I'd hunt with any of the loads we're developed. The rifle owned has now slain several beasties with the 180/H4831 loads.
 
H4350 is hard to beat in the 30-06 with 165 - 180 grain bullets... excellent load density, excellent velocity, and excellent accuracy... not fussy at all about length either in my experience.

I've had excellent results with RL22, 75.0 grs producing over 3000 fps and sub MOA accuracy in 3 different rifles. Keep an eye open for RL22.
The other three powders are all good choices as well. I would start with H4831SC, than H4350.
You should find a good load with little effort as most 300 Win Mags will shoot.

Recently I started using Ramshot Hunter.It's about on the same burn rate and load rate as IMR 4831.Really I think any powder between the 4350's and Ramshot Magnum will work for the 300 Win Mag if you find the right load.I'm usually jumping .050 - .100 on AccuBond and Ballistic Tips.Here are some of my results with Hunter powder.

Welcome to the forum, I have used 180 Ballistic Tips and Accubonds in the 300 Win Mag Rem. 700 with RL 22 at 3165 fps roughly. 74.4 grains worked for both bullets. Last I remembered was both bullets had the same POI. These three groups was shot at 300 yards on 2 separate occasions right after testing at 100 yards, first pic was with Ballistic Tips, 2nd and 3rd pic is with Accubonds. Only had 4 rounds left of Accubonds, so I used 2 and confirmed 2nd time with 2 more. Penny was for size comparison. Happy with RL-22, it was the only powder I used and stuck with it. It's temp sensitive though and the other powders the other guys mentioned are great as well. I would try them in a heartbeat. I haven't tested much with this rifle after finding a great load and did not take long and hasn't been used much. Hopefully show us some results soon. Good luck (y)

I’m finally getting around to working up a load for the 180 grain AccuBond in my Win M70 in 300 win mag. Apparently, it’s a long throated rascal. With a jump of .100”, as measured from the ogive, the COAL is 3.486”. That’s a whopping .146” longer than the SAAMI spec of 3.340”. If I load to the SAAMI spec I’ll be jumping almost a quarter of an inch. Magazine length restricts me to a COAL of 3.400” which gives me a .186” jump. Has anyone had any experience with such a long jump?

My favorite 300WSM with my preferred load has a jump of 0.185" and it shoots lights out.

The newer bullets with long ogive lengths and boat tails seem either like a long jump or are tolerant of it. I'd load it SAAMI and see how it shoots.
 
That short mag box seems to be a big problem with a lot of rifles chambered for the 300 Win Mag.I'm beginning to think somebody screwed up making 3.340 as the max length for the 300 Win Mag and rifle manufacture design engineers did to.The 308 Norma Magnum has a max case length of 2.559.The 300 Win Mag has a max case length of 2.620.The 308 Norma Mag has a max overall cartridge length of 3.347.The 300 Win Mag is 3.340.So why is the max length shorter for the 300 Win Mag?The case is .061 longer,yet the max length is .007 shorter.A lot of the rifles have mag boxes around 3.400.My Sako is even shorter at 3.300.Some are 3.600 and that length is perfect for the 300 Win Mag.I've checked six different 300 Win Mags and the cartridge length to the lands usually ends up being between 3.480-3.600.My Sako A7 magazine is so short,if I seat bullets that function in the magazine,I'm getting past the bearing surface of the bullet and it's getting up on the ogive.I can push the bullets into the case by hand because there is very little neck tension to hold the bullet.It shoots about 1.5" groups seated that deep.I can single shot top feed the cartridge with a max length seated at 3.490 and the groups shrink to .5".Max cartridge length to the lands is 3.600,so I'm jumping .110 and getting good accuracy.Oh well,you shouldn't have to shoot but once with a 300 Win Mag anyway.
 
I have been loading my 300 WM since 1975 with 70 + grains of H4350, accuracy is outstanding with sub 1" groups common. I load them at 3.30, mine likes the 180 gr Speer flat base as well as the Sierra Match King. Its a wonderful all around hunting rifle with Nosler Partitions up front.

Due to mag box restrictions in my .375 H&H Remington 700 the longest I can load 260gr Accubonds for it puts them right at .260" off the lands. Just over a quarter inch. It shoots sub moa if I do my part. My '06 with them, also a 700, jumps .16" due to mag box restrictions as well. As others have stated they definitely don't seem to mind the jump. I only own one rifle I think that I could load to full length and am not restricted by the mag box.
