Well, we had alot of water jugs on tap in order to do some bullet testing. So I will go in order of shots. First up was Brians 45-70 with the 500gr DGX at 1150 or so. We tried to get straight penetration but our set up was a little skewed. We kept getting 6-7 jugs and the bullet was slipping out. Here are the attempts at capturing these slugs.

Then, moving on we moved to the 30-30 Win with the 170gr Sierra PH. My son shot this one into jugs and did a great job and had a blast. The recovered bullet is just about perfect. Very good performance I would say by any bullet maker!

Then we moved onto the 35 Rem with the 200gr CLRN... Very impressive bullet at that speed. Probably the prettiest mushroom I have ever seen in person.

Then we moved onto the 45-70 as loaded by Hornady. The speed is chronoed at 1850FPS and shot a decent group like this. They are pretty good shooting loads. Good handloads beat them out, but I think there is alot of hype about this bullet exploding and such. Can't really say I would believe that. Maybe if pushed faster than 2000, but not below.

This was the results of pushing that bullet to 2200FPS.. Not as good, but it would still be very hard to stop one of them.

Hope you guys enjoyed the videos. Again, it just shows that until you actually test bullets yourself against "something", you really cannot judge them from internet findings. Too much baloney floating around about bullets and bad reps can be made pretty quick from just hearsay. That FTX is a prime example. I thought it was going to be soft and not very tough. At 2000 or below, it would take some BIG animal to slow them down. Scotty

Some good videos there. I'm somewhat surprised at the impact of the 30-30 on the water jugs contra the 45-70; it looks every bit as disruptive.

Mike, the 30-30 was no slouch at all. I feel pretty confident in that Sierra at 30-30 speeds. That mushroom looks just to darned good to be a "lucky" shot. I was going to try another 170 out, but seeing as they shoot so well, I am staying as is! Scotty

Those mushrooms look good. I agree with you, the 35 cal 200 gr SPCL sure is a dandy looking mushroom. If I ever et a 35 Rem, that is the bullet I would use.

Hope I get a chance to give it a whirl this year. Both the 30-30 and 35 Rem look really good and they are shooting well. Scotty

Gotta be proud of your son! He did a really nice job. The old 30-30 did a nice job and my what a mushroom. That's excellent! Makes a guy want to go do some more bullet recovery Scotty! We need to see a 130 gr. AccuBond out of your 264 WM now!

There is one there David! It wasn't keen on nearly 3400FPS at 20 yards, but it did okay. Check out my 264 thread. It was pretty cool. Even upped the ante by putting a few videos up for you. Scotty

That is very respectable performance out of that 170g sierra 30-30 slug. Wow! I might have to give them a try when i get around to loading for my 30-30. To many other irons in the fire right now to start another cartridge. Those are some COOL videos on youtube. Thanks for sharing Scotty!

I will see if I can get this post migrated to the bullet tests section. Should be a little more useful over there.

Jim/Fotis/Mason, can I have this moved? Scotty

Loved the videos, and of course the information. Brians shirt however takes the prize of the day! No wind here today will be shooting.
Yoiu all have a great day!

Good deal Bill. Glad you are getting some shooting in. I think Brian and I will be shooting on Sunday. Should be getting our kit finalized and ready for OR. Have you done anymore shooting with your new Marlin? Scotty
