A couple of weeks ago I started the load workup on a new Weatherby Vanguard S2 243. I loads with the 85 gr Partition, 90 gr AccuBond, 95 gr Balistic Tip and a 100 gr Sierra GK.

Though I didn't try a bunch of different powders on each, after the results I had, I'm sticking with the AB's and the Partition.

I ended up with the best targets being a max load of IMR 4064 behind the partitions putting 5 shots into .7" and IMR 4350 with a max load pushing the 90 gr AB putting a 5 shot group into .5". Both max loads are from the current Nosler book.
The reason I stopped with these two is that the point of impact for both bullets/loads is exactly the same!

So, this past Sunday, before the game, I went out to see how they did on the chrony.
I'm using a Magneto-speed to get the results shown below.

On the 85 gr Partition:

Series 1 Shots: 5
Min 3121 Max 3232
Avg 3174 S-D 47.1
ES 111

Series Shot Speed
1 1 3133 ft/s
1 2 3183 ft/s
1 3 3205 ft/s
1 4 3232 ft/s
1 5 3121 ft/s

For the 90 Gr AB:

Series 4 Shots: 4
Min 3029 Max 3072
Avg 3050 S-D 17.6
ES 43

Series Shot Speed
4 1 3053 ft/s
4 2 3048 ft/s
4 3 3072 ft/s
4 4 3029 ft/s

Only picked up 4 shots on the 90's. It was too windy to try longer range, though we can shoot out to 600 on my friends place.

My friend ran the numbers through a program he has and both should be good to go on Texas whitetails out to 450 yards.

My next plan is to load a bunch up and head out there for an all-day shooting extravaganza out to the 450-500 yard mark just to see where the scope/rifle combo will go.
Once that is done I'll put together a 'cheat sheet' for each load, laminate it and tape it to the stock. Then it's practice, practice and a little more practice.

Ok, I took a few days off for Easter (and turkey hunting) and went to another friend's ranch. He'd built a range there that went out to 1500 yards!
Winds were fairly light so I brought out the 243 and checked it at 300, 400 and 500.

The target at 300 fell over on the 3rd shot so no picks there. But here is the pictures of the groups at 400 and 500

I think this load is ready!

Very nice! Sorry I missed this thread earlier, the 6mm bore is one of my long-time favorites.

First turned to the 85 gr Nosler Partition back in the 1970's. They were fairly blunt then, but good velocity could be achieved and they did a fine job both on target and on game. It's actually a much different bullet now, but still has those same qualities I'm told.

The AccuBond... Nice... Good bullet and I'm glad Nosler brought those out for us. Particularly for the cartridges with high velocity potential.

Keep up the good work, looks like you've got some great loads, and looks like you know what you're doing behind the trigger as well.

Here's the AB after passing through 4 1 gallon jugs of water. Found it inside the 5th jug. Range was 40 yards.

Think this should work out to 400.
