Earlier this year I decided to do a pretty rough test on the 6.5 142 lrab. I wrapped an elk femur in two layers of cardboard and then taped it to a 3 gallon water jug that had two other 3 gallon water jugs behind it. The load spit them out at 2950fps. I got back to 40 yards and shot the femur

Bullet blew through the femur

Made it to the 3rd jug and poked enough of a hole to let water drain but didn't make it all the way through

Bullet retained 44% which I thought was pretty good considering what it went through.

I think that’s darned good. I’d like to try it in my 6.5 CM.. bet it would be awesome there. Thanks for the test.

Impressive results!
Thanks for your efforts and sharing the results.

I've read on the internet, so it must be true, elk leg bones are the densest bones in the deer species. Regardless I've seen them shred bullets over the years, hence my preference for a 338 and 250 grain bullets.
Your test is significant, outstanding results.
