For those of us hunting Eastern Oregon the news from ODFW spring survey is not good. In general terms deer and antelope tags for those GMU in the northeast 1/4 of the state have been reduced by as much as 50% due to winter kill.
Elk appear to have done ok.
I couldn't get the report to attach, go to ODFW website for the press release.

Has to be a bummer! The deer get hit hard and early, whilst the elk appear to be capable of withstanding some pretty severe weather.

The elk appear to have done well to ok. The next test will be how many calfs hit the ground. The elk that winter in east Mt. Emily had a tough winter, those that winter on the west side fared better, they came all the way down to the casino, even into Pendleton.

Wow! Bill has told me how far they come down. I need to see that one of these days. Mt Emily is one of my favorite elk hunts. Really enjoy hunting that country.

I heard the eastern Washington is in the same boat

We had a severe winter kill of deer and antelope in 2010 and numbers are just starting to recover some.
It's to bad to hear about it in Oregon and Washington, was it above average snowfall , extreme cold or a mixture?

We had a lot of snow. In and of itself not unusual. The problem was the cold weather brought the snow down low and it didn't get above freezing for a month and the wintering areas were covered.

Yeah, it has caused me to change up my plans for deer this year and probably will alter antelope too. More than likely will not draw antelope so that should be a non issue for me. I am also thinking of chasing elk in the high dessert this year.
