Colorado Outfitter Pleads Guilty

I agree with you 100% Dr Mike.

A woman from Norway was fined and lost her firearm for shooting Ptarmigan out of season here the The Yukon.,

We have terrible experiences with Reality Show crews, who feel they can do whatever they want while here. One was recently fined for shooting three bears, others have been fined for fires, litter ( and I am talking massive litter ) which to those of us who love the land, live off off the land, and respect the land very upset.

I am not an advocate of shoot, shovel and shut up and believe me when trying to protect Caribou and Muskox breeding grounds, you want to kill every wolf in sight, so I understand how ranchers feel, but I for one will follow the rules and if I dont like them will fight to get them changed, not ignore them.

I like that last paragraph Cheyenne. People who abuse the system should pay the price and be made examples of no matter who the are or how much money they have.

Well I think they got off easy. Wondering why no federal charges, not mentioned any way, perhaps negotiated away.
Glad they were busted.

Agreed.

The trespass charge has me scratching my head. How does one trespass on public land?

I get they didn’t have a proper tag. That’s not trespass, it’s illegal hunting.

Illegal baiting is illegal baiting.

Could be sloppy reporting I suppose.

Probably had private land only tags and used them on public land.

I agree with DrMike, that every time someone illegally hunts the public paint us all with the same brush .
I am glad that they were caught but I believe a lifetime band on hunting was in order as he was a professional and it was no mistake.

Blessings,
Dan

Just because someone is a professional guide or an outfitter, does not mean that they are automatically in a special class and not human or like every other person; they can, but may not, play by all the rules, be completely ethical and/or live by a higher standard. They are trying to make a living, build a reputation, and attract new clients by being successfful in getting their clients their trophies, hoping that they will be record class.
Easy to see/understand why they might be tempted to bend the rules or break the laws in order to do so = human nature to try and get ahead/gain advantage over others.
Lets hope that most (but should be "all") are everything that they should be, and know that they are representing not only themselves, but a larger group that cannot afford any more black eyes.

Gil, you bring up a great point.

Outfitter, and integrity are two different words.

In Michigan, we have a lot of hunters, and we’re pretty hard on bucks. The average guy that holds out for a mature buck (more than 3.5 yrs and 8pts). It’s slim pickings.

So one of my friends, went with his dad for big bucks in Missouri.
The outfitter sent pictures regularly.. big buck pictures (white tail porn)... 1 guy took a 135, the other 19 hunters were empty handed. My friend saw a doe and a coyote 4 days on two stands...
That was a pretty unhappy group.

So, even though no bucks on camera, he went out last night and was rewarded with a great 10 (for Michigan) last night.

and another twist to Gil's point

Back in 2002 two B.C. hunters accidentally crossed into The Yukon and harvested two goats. They never knew they had moved across the border and proudly hung their trophies and pictures of their trophies in their place of business. One individual recognized the area in their pictures and knew it was in The Yukon, not B.C., as they had thought and as was stated on their picture. This individual notified the authorities and they were charged 7500.00 each and lost their trophies approx a decade after the hunt.
