Close Encounter With a Family of Grizzlies

That is a lovely shot of the sow as she stands up looking over the hood.

That is cool! We were camping in Chitna Alaska after a day of dip netting. We decided we were to tired to drive back home, so just slept in the truck. This area is covered in bears due to the salmon carcasses and the run. About midnight I hear a steam engine, look out the window and there’s a sow with cubs walking funny and blowing/snorting every step not liking the situation. She was about 9’, and at 3’ from the window she was about eye level and that window feels mighty thin! Needless to say she was looking right down the tube of a 338 but didn’t know it.

About 15 min later we heard a series of 12ga blasts and found out she’d been sniffing around a few tents about 100 yards down the road. If you are ever in AK in the summer, chitna is a cool place to visit.
