307 Winchester

Why is there no load data for the 307 Winchester?

Where are you looking and what are you looking for? I think Nosler only has 2 real bullets for the 307, the 170gr PT and the 150gr BST.. Let me know what you are looking for, I have a few manuals that have some good 307 data. Scotty

Surveyor,

First off, welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, the excellent .307 never captured the imagination of the shooting public. It is an excellent cartridge chambered in a classic rifle. There is data available, but it is somewhat limited. Scotty has offered to look up in his books, and I'm certain anyone here would be pleased to provide data if you tell us what bullet you want to use and perhaps the powders you have available.

I forgot to say Welcome Aboard! You are in good hands buddy! Tell us what you need and I know you will get plenty of help. Have the scanner standing by to copy if you need it! Scotty

Welcome as well, I'm pretty sure Hodgdon would have some data for you on their website. I had a 307 for a while nice little gun kinda wish I still had it.

Hang in there. From the little Ive read the 307 is a fantastic round. AS Dr Mike said, much under-rated. Somebody here will have some help for you. CL

Welcome aboard Surveyor!
I can't wait to see what my .307 does as well. I'm sure the other's will come up with some data for you,,,maybe me too  Although, mine is on the Encore action, and made to shoot both the .307/.308.. Looking to load 2 different bullet weights in the 2 cases,,, mess around hopefully regulating them as to shoot same POI,,,,might be wishful thinkin there
But I too would be suprised if Hodgdon don't have it on their site.
Just looking at their manual, and while not always, it looks like one could go 10% below .308 Win starting. But I did see some powders that were less when cross referencing. We'll all get it figured out together shortly!

First I want to thank everyone for such quick response to my question.
I am looking to see if anyone has used the 170 gr. Nosler Partition in the 307WIn. I developed a load for the 170 gr boat tail soft point that Nosler made years ago for the 3030. The load data is 40 grains of WW748 powder with a Winchester LR primer. I get three quarter inch grouping at 100yds. I am now down to my last seven rounds of that bullet and working on the 170gr Partition. I tried using the same data. My grouping are no better than four inches, which is terrible. Hopefully we can come up with something. Maybe Nosler can address this problem with some testing. Thanks again :)

Is 60,000PSI safe in the M94 BB's? Just wondering.. Seems like that is really smoking! Scotty

You are using your 30-30 data in teh .307...or did I misread that?
But sorry, no experience using WW748.
If I were to use the 170 PT, I would likely start with Varget or RL15

Hmmm, I wonder too. I had in the back of my mind, that the BigBore rifles ran in the 42-44000 psi range,,,,maybe 46000. But 60000 :?:

SAAMI pressure limits were set at 52000 CUP, which is roughly equivalent to 60000 PSI.

Why did I ever sell the one I had especially with a 170 PT available? Makes you wonder why it wasn't a commercial success especially when it out performs the 30-30.

The 307 will rock and could have a come back if for instance Winchester would make available their
308 flat point bullet. Next the bullet manufactures create a few more premium 150gr, 170gr and 180gr. bullets for the 307 ( with data). I noticed somewhere the 307 was being compared as an equal to a 300 Savage and very close to the 308, well if that's the case the 307 should be around for a very long while. Maybe I am just babbling to hear myself. what do you think, am I just wasting my time talking about it???????????????
