57gr RL17, WW brass, CCI LR primer, 165 NAB, 2950 FPS, 45 yards, no bullet recovered, 100 yard track. First animal to EVER run after I have shot it with an NAB in ANY caliber. 4.5 year old doe, 86lb dressed.

Nice doe! Did it leave a good blood trail?
I'm starting to like the 150gr AB for deer in the 30-06. It just seems to be made for the 30-06 just like the 165gr BT.

It was raining when I shot her, so I started tracking quickly. Blood trail was SUBSTANTIAL, but also on fall foliage that was wet and turning red, so tracking was not the “quick gimme” that you may expect

I’m sure that 150 NABs would be more than adequate

The last deer I shot was a grown 8pt buck at 100yds. There was plenty of blood at the impact site from the exit and the deer was dead 30yds away. I'm thinking the 150gr ABs will exit more often than 165gr BTs.

Congratulations. You still got the deer.

Thank you. I’m thrilled with the performance. This is the reason that I’m in the camp of always wanting an exit wound. Bullets that fall to pieces without an exit wound leave less of a blood trail and could lead to not recovering an animal. Even a bullet that “always” gives DRT results may get a different reaction from an animal one day due to the animal or conditions, and I want as much blood on the ground at that point as possible.

Hello everyone,
I am not sure why some find issue with 165 grain bullets in 30/06 for deer. I shot a 180 pound doe at the hoof with a Hornady GMX. The animal was +/- 150 meters and quartered towards me. She did not run over 15 yards, after being shot. I did not recover the bullet, but the bullet did the job.
I am not sure I would use a 150 grain bullet for deer within 300 yards. A 150 grain traditional bullet in 06 is capable of 3,000 fps and I believe there may be too much damage to the meat. To each his own.
Respectfully,
Doni

In 308 and 30-06 I used 150 BT for years on whitetails with great success but when i jumped up to the 300 WSM I went to a bonded bullet. my go to is the 165 AB on top of a full case of W760. Speed at impact was substantially different and I felt more confident in the AB at 3200 than the BT. 45yds at nearly 3K I bet there wasn't much expansion

The bullet actually would expand more at the faster velocity than say what it would at 200 yards when it's slowed down some.

I’ve found that heart-shot or even double lunged animals can still make a few tracks no matter what bullet used.

My doe this year was taken at about 150 yards with a 165 grain Nosler AccuBond from my .30-06. I hit her right behind the onside shoulder and clipped the back of the offside shoulder. She humped up, trotted 4 or 5 steps and crumpled. Her lungs and heart were toast, I got my venison!

Love that 165 AccuBond, it’s a perfect match for my .30-06!
