Out in the Bristol Bay region the rivers have been closed to protect spawning rainbows. When I was a kid the ADFG had a bounty on rainbows, .25 a tail.
In any event that changed at midnight, hope you all have a wonderful day my guys are content to start at 0500.

Appears to have been a beautiful day for getting on the streams. Hard to believe that there was a time when rainbows were a menace. While not official policy, I've witnessed a similar attitude generally expressed toward Dolly Varden here in BC. Yeah, rainbows and other fish do eat salmon eggs, but there is still sufficient escapement. Beautiful picture.

Nothing too exciting,’lots of 18 inch rainbows but no 30 inch ones yet.

Still haven’t landed on over 30. We’ve had a few on but they won the battle. Did get a 26 inches today.

A bright, lovely fish. No doubt a good fight to bring her to hand.

This always confuses people when they visit up here.
Compass bearing 30 degrees, declination is 17 so we’re talking dang near north, yep that’s the sun rising at 0515

Dr. Mike young master Carson gets very excited on these rainbows.
The fly; a five inch long olive colored fly known as “The sex dungeon”

Yes, a fat rainbow can definitely get the heart beating wildly. "The sex dungeon," you say? I'll have to look that one up.

Still haven’t broke 30 inches; I’m a failure as a guide..

Great photos! I miss Alaska. Last trip was in 2018. Hmmm...

Might be about time to fix that, next year.

Brooks river today, I know Guy has been there. Brooks falls is the spot they have cameras so you can watch the bears from America. Slow start today, water is cold, we finally put mice on and it was on.

All bright fish. I recall a few magical days of limiting out on sockeye with ultralight gear. One day I was suffering severe radial epicondylitis, and each catch caused such intense pain that I could only tuck the rod into my arm and let the salmon run. But I wouldn't quit since the run was so fresh. Wonderful memories! I landed enough sockeye that one day to ensure that I nursed my elbow for some days after.

Great photos as usual! Wonderful fishing too. :)

Ya, I was only on the Brooks once, 1978/1979, one of those years. Amazing place.

Guy

Leaving fish to find fish, hope I chose the right fly out day.
