How is barrel length measured?

Is barrel length measured from the shoulder? From the free bore? from the bolt face?

Just asked a Q on GBroker and the answer was 25" from bolt face, which on a 7mm R.E.M. mag, 3+ inch cartridge/bullet, I would call that a 22" barrel (if 25 from bolt face).

I always measure from the bolt face . I stick a cleaning rod in the bbl put a mark on it and then just measure the cleaning rod .

My 30.06 is a 22", and my 22-250 and 223rem are 26".

Completely loving Quickloads' ability to forecast velocity and powder burn rates. Will be nice to get a feel ifpowder is burning fast or slow as a lot...and actually knowing it!

Rocky Gibbs was the only one who I know of made a point of measuring a barrel from the tip of the bullet. He liked his barrels long!
