As of yesterday, I acquired a Savage 99 EG, in .300 Savage. I haven't seen one this nice in over 20 years, and it was assembled in 1954. It now shares a safe with my other Savage 99C in .308! I do love me some Savage 99's!

Thank you!
I came across this by shear coincidence. And the guy who had it didn't have any idea really what he had.

Congratulations. A sweet acquisition, to be sure. Be interesting to see how it shoots.

Very nice ! I have one for the sake of memories of deer season on grandparents farm back in '60 / '70s. Grandfather's was early 1950's in 300 Sav. It was about 5 years ago I came across one and had to buy it.

Thank you! It looks a lot better in person than what the photos actually show.

Thank you DrMike.
I'm hoping it shoots as well as it looks.

The first Savage 99 I owned was a very worn blued barrel and action, along with a very worn finish on the stock. It was almost worn down to the gun metal color. The barrel was mirror bright though.
Now this one I just got was made in '54, and it looks so much better than that first one I ever owned. The old one was an EG, just like this one.
This one has that same mirror shine bore, and the action is as smooth as butter.

My first (and only) Model 99 was a 99-C chambered in 38-55. It should have never gone down the road, but... Wouldn't mind finding one of later manufacture chambered in either .358 or .284. Rare birds, those, used (I suppose) to hunt unicorns.

Those are rare calibers to be considering, and usually command a hefty price when you find them.
They're still out there to be had though.
Hoping you find one that you would want to have DrMike.
I caught the Savage 99 bug back in 1997, and it's hasn't diminished any since then.

LOL I wouldn't pass one down if I had a chance to get one, believe me.

Those are some nice looking 99's.

Thank you!
They look much better in person. The stocks didn't come out as pretty in the pics as they are in real life.

Very nice! I think a Savage like yours, in 300 or in 308 Win, would be very useful!

My only Savage is this 99 in .22 Hi Power, from 1913. I intend to use it a bit this winter for coyotes.

Guy,

You have a great looking rifle. I tried to get a .22 Savage Hi-Power 2 years ago, and the guy that was selling decided to keep it.

Wow, you guys have some super 99's! Of them I think the .300 Savage, the .250 Savage, and the .22 Hi-Power would be super cool to shoot and own.

Great Photo work there Guy..... you really know how to display a proud firearm!
