I was looking at the Savage 110 Storm in 280 AI and it has a 22” barrel. Doesn’t that kinda defeat the purpose of having a 280 AI when it comes to muzzle velocity?

It will a little bit. My 280 AI has a 24" barrel.my guess is that you would be about 100-125 fps slower with a 22" barrel.

I bet it will only be 25-50 fps slower it's not a big deal in my opinion

I was was thinkin’ somewhere between 50-100 FPS.

Any barrel length in a 280AI is a great .
I think if you took the average you likely wouldn't lose more than 50fps and the range we mostly shoot game at that is nothing (y).

Blessings,
Dan

It's a savage so if worse comes a barrel change is needed you're roughly 300 bucks and 15 minutes from whatever you want.
Seriously, I'd think a 22 would be fine.

Well, I had a Mod 700 Mountain Rifle in .280 ( 22" bbl) reamed out to the AI and I only gained "50 fps" with the Nosler 150 NBT and R22. Same with the Speer 160. I came away feeling that I want "at least" a 24"barrel and maybe even the 26" would be the Berries! :)

IMHO, a 24" barrel is just about perfect for the 280 AI.
