Headed to the range this morning to try see what the 180g ELDMs were doing at 1K before the shoot this saturday. The dang wind was blowing 20-25 mph so not the greatest to test loads. I had mixed 2 lots of H1000 to load a batch of 50 up. Worked up my load from 1 can at 72.5, but only had enough to load 15 rounds from it. Had another opened can of H1000 to load 45 rounds so I just poured them in a bowl and mixed them up good. Loaded 3 at 72 and 3 at 72.5. This was the 72g load. I didnt even shoot the 72.5 load. I'll head back out in the morning and get out a little earlier to try and beat the wind and reshoot the 72 and then shoot the 72.5 load. I honestly think either of them will do the job at this point. 1/2 MOA with 2" of vertical, I'll take that anyday.

I’d say it doesn’t matter. .5 grain in that big case ain’t likely enough to matter one way or the other.

Great shooting!

Went out this morning and tried both loads, 72 and 72.5 This time was only around 10mph winds. Going to go back out in the morning and try both loads again and make my decision then. Hopefully I can catch a break with the wind tomorrow morning...

I’d bet you’d be hard pressed to see much difference you’re sitting on such a solid node.

Yah I just want to make sure since I mixed a couple lots together, but it's hard to really get an idea of which one is actually doing better at 1K with all the damn wind we are having lately...I'm thinking about just going with the 72g load since it has less vertical. I dunno, probably splitting hairs here but I've always been kind of anal when it comes to my rifles and accuracy...I need some kind of excuse anyway for when I lose ya know :) haha

I hear that buddy. That's a darned good shooting rifle. Load looks to be spot on as well. When you're shooting that well and have a load that well dialed in on a case as big as the 300 Win Mag, a 1/2 grain either direction doesn't make a heckuva lot of difference if you're sitting solidly on a node which it looks like you are.

Went out again again this morning with 4 shots each at 72 and 72.5 The dang wind was blowing 10mph at 6am already. So I shot the 72g load and it did pretty good. But by the time I got to shooting the 72.5g load, the wind picked up to 20-25 mph. I missed the right edge of the plate the 1st shot, dialed 1.5 more MOA to the left and let the other 3 fly. You can definitely tell the wind was blowing haha. But anyway I said F it and just loaded them up at 72g. 72 has been putting 2 very close to each other the last 3 mornings so well go with it...Thanks Scotty, well see what happens in the morning. I have to be up at 3am to leave by 4, it's a 3 hour drive and it starts at 8am.

Danged nice shooting.

Maybe you’ll find an 8lber of H1000 on a dusty shelf during your travels.

I’m impressed with the long range capabilities. Especially doping the changing wind. I’ve been known to do worse than that at 100 on occasions.
If you don’t mind if I ask, are you doing anything special with the brass prep for that?

Well I ended up taking 1st place in the shoot! It was in 4 different stages from 200-1100 yards. Was a dang good time with a bunch of great guys. Definitely be doing it again. I do think I need a different caliber though, 7-10 shot strings in 3 and 4 minutes on a 7-300 win mag gets the barrel SMOKING HOT, literally could smell the steel, and fry bacon and eggs on my barrel... I bet my throat didnt like it much either. So now I'm contemplating what to build for these type shoots...Cause at this rate my 7-300 will be toast in a year haha. But I tell you what, those 180g ELDMs at 3000fps sure sliced through the little wind that we had. I did not touch my windage once, which was pretty cool, because all the 6.5 CM guys were putting 2-3 MOA at 1000-1100 lol. Nothing to special for brass prep. Its just necked down 300 win mag nosler brass to 7mm, FL sized .002" bumped shoulder, flash hole debur, VLD chamfered inside neck, with .002" neck tension. That's it. No weight sorting, neck turning, or primer pockets squared.

Congrats on coming in first! Looks like you practising in windy conditions sure paid off.

Maybe a 6.5 somewhat bigger than the Creedmoor might be something to consider. A 6.5-284 or even the 6.5 PRC maybe?

Great job. It seems anything would get hot shooting at those rates. Gotta be hard on the equipment.

Congrats Jorey!

I think we need a new thread on what you can build next!

Way to go buddy!

Gotta pay to play man! They make more barrels ya know? I'd just run it, pay the price and enjoy smoking Creedmoores...lol. I doubt it's any better on barrels, but my 7mm rem mag does 3000fps with the 180 eld-m as well. I actually shoot 73gr H1000 in it. It has been throated for the 180 Eld-m at 3.450" oal. Congrats on the win!
