338 RUM Back From The Gunsmith

Looks great Jim! Man, 8133 looks darned good, a little slower than Retumbo, but man, it is consistent across the board!

Don't be surprised to see that Krieger continue pushing up on the speeds once you get a 100 rounds through it either. Wouldn't be surprised to see it gain 50 FPS or more as it continues to shoot in.

Is there any upward mobility in the 8133 to keep adding some powder?

Scotty
Max load listed for IMR 8133 is 101.5 grs Compressed.
I'm going to keep going and see what I can do
My goal is 3000 fps and a 1 holer. :)

Shoot, with the accuracy you’re seeing right now I wouldn’t be able to help myself pushing up with it. Seems like 8133 is going to be a good one.

Jim,
That is a fine looking rifle! I'm running the 265 ABLR with 87 gr RL-26 and getting sub .5 moa groups and 2940 fps. I bet you may be able to reach your 3,000 goal with RL-26 if Retumbo doesn't work out for you. I had a good Retumbo load (93.5 or 94gr I can't remember exactly) for the 265 as well, but it was a bit hot, and it was more compressed than I like.

Good luck!

My 26" Bartlein barrel (338RUM) will push the 250 Accubonds into small groups with 89.9gr RE26 @ 3,000 ft/sec. Groups under 2' at 400yds are repeatable. I have Nosler and Rem brass but have only used the Rem brass with the RE26 so far.

Its worth a try.

Thanks fellas. I plan on using the 265 gr ABLR once I can get a few boxes of them. Until then, I'm using the 250 gr AB.
I've found a load that shoots pretty good.
MV 3030 fps ES 19 SD 9
R-P case
Federal GM215M primer
COL 3.605"
She stacks them at 400 yards
Next up is shooting at 600 and 800 yards.

Glad that you're getting out with the big Remington.

Promising results for sure, a quality 250 at 3,000 fps is nothing to sneeze at!

Guy

I shot the 338 RUM at 800 yards and she didn't disappoint! A 3" group at 800 yards is impressive.

That is some gratifying accuracy, Jim. Looks great.

I'm using 98.6 grs Retumbo and 250 gr AB seconds.
MV 3030 fps
MOA +14.0 @ 800 yards with a 200 yard zero

Impressive! Great load development and shooting. Looks like a wining combination of rifle and ammo.

Thank you fellas.
Clean up is quick and easy.

I took a couple shots at 400 yards the other day. We had 10-15 mph winds. I had two hits that were about 1.5 " apart. Not bad considering the variable wind's we were getting. Just waiting on some crop damage tags to start my "Field Testing".
This rifle is shooting extremely well. I am thinking of upgrading the trigger from the original factory to a Jewel trigger.

Check out a TriggerTech Jim. Awesome 700 triggers and they are a tough box trigger.

Broke in the new 338 RUM last night at the farm summer crop damage deer hunting. I'm shooting the 250 gr AB at 3030 fps with 98.6 grs Retumbo, R-P case, and Federal GM215M primer.
#1 Doe was 308 yards DRT (white spot on edge of the field left of the hanging branch).
#2 was a small buck at 325 yards. At the shot, he was DRT. #3 was another buck 350 yards. At the shot he ran about 100 yards and piled up, #4 was another small buck at 300 yards. At the crack of the rifle, the deer was DRT.
The rifle handled nicely and was easy to carry when slung on my shoulder. The Leupold VX-6HD 3-18x50mm scope is very clear and bright. The turrets are positive and repeatable.
I am very pleased with the performance of this rifle.
I'm looking forward to getting ahold of some 265 gr ABLR and the new 300 gr ABLR bullets and working up loads.

Jim that will work, nice shooting.
I can understand experimenting but don't think I would mess with a good thing.
