First range trip with the ruger african 275 rigby.

Very nice rifle and it looks promising, have had 3 different 77's, (2 Mk II's and a Hawkeye) and all shot under 1" with a number of loads and some around 1/2" so I would bet yours will too once you experiment a bit. Mine seemed to do a bit better free floated instead of the bumps in the fore end they come with. A 160 gr Hot Cor at around 2700 fps would be a fantastic load if it works for you.

Thanks Gerry! I glass bedded the action, and free floated it before shooting it. That seemed to be two of the most common modifications to the rugers, that I could find.

Last night I installed a new rifle basix trigger. Seems like a good product. Not sure on pull weight as my trigger gauge is being loaned out at the moment. Today my redding dies and 160 hot cors will arrive. Cant wait to try out some handloads this weekend

My data with Re17 and the 150 gr. Nosler Partition. Rifle used was a Winchester M70 Featherweight, 22" barrel. Scope a Burris Fullfield II 3x9 set at 9X.

1. 47.0 gr. 2710 FPS ES 26 FPS Group a one inch triangle.
2. 47.5 gr. 2751 FPS ES 19 FPS Group 1 1/8x1x1/2" The one out was probably shooter error.
3. 48.0 gr. Missing FPS ES Missing FPS Group 1x3/8" As in group 2 the flyer was to the left of the main group. Velocity missing due to chronograph malfunction.
4. 48.5 gr. 2847 FPS ES 39 FPS Group 3/4x 1/4" two literally in the same hole and the outlier 3/4" above the hole.
4. 48.5 gr.

I have 18 rounds loaded up with RL16 and and 160 speer hot cor. Six loads each at 45, 45.5,46 grains of RL16. All seated .020" off the lands. This rifle is a standard long action so I was able to easily touch the lands and still fit in the magazine. I loaded enough to have three groups and two different torque setting on the action screws. Maybe the rain will hold off and I can go try on out today or tm evening.

Thanks buddy got rained out today unfortunately. The twist is 1:8.75. That's why I'm really hoping the 160-175 grainers are gonna wake it up. I've loaded enough for 3 groups at the torque setting you recommended ( 45 front, 30 back). Also have enough loaded for 3 more groups if that torque setting doesnt work out

Oh wow, they twisted it right!

Yeah, I checked with my FFL for one of the 275’s like yours and he can’t get them. Plenty of Swedes and 9.3’s around but not many 275’s! You done good scooping that one up.

I think you made a great choice buddy. That’s a complete sweetheart of a rifle. If I didn’t have a 6.5 Swede in a Classic Featherweight I’d like one of those but the 7x57 is calling to me.

Oh I had a swede in a model 70 classic. My older brother managed to talk me out of it. One of my biggest mistakes I've ever made. Still regret it to this day.

That's another one of my all time favorite calibers, the good Ol' 7x57 Mauser (.275 Rigby). It seems eager to please in a modern rifle. Kinda like the .308 Win, not flashy, won't cook your deer or whatever game animals you hunt, it just plain works!
Easy on the shoulder as well. Extremely lethal to receive.

Should fit in perfect for deer here. I'm got to where I really like the heavy bullets, at moderate speeds in the medium bores.

Here are the groups from today, shot some yesterday also just not measured them yet. Starting to think this bullet and powder combo are just a pretty solid 1 1/4" load. Which will be fine for the hunting it will see, about 200 yards max. That one group that is really tight I dont know how that happened, i guess i was just holding my mouth right lol. The top two targets are with a .010" jump. The bottom two targets are .158" jump(I only picked this length because it was the length used in the load data I copied).

Also was pleased with my 9.3x62 today. It knocks me a little silly since it doesnt weight just a whole lot. That 286 grain PPU round nose with 65 grains of big game hits 2,500fps and is a hammer on deer. And my howa 26" 6.5 CM continues to shoot great every single day it seems. I blame it for making me think every gun including hunting rifles should shoot sub 1/2" groups. Which I really need to get over and just except that any 1 1/2" - 2" gun will be fine for me, for all my deer shooting is 200 yards and under. Mostly 75 yards and under lol. It's just hard to get over those sub 1/2" groups lol.
