Doing some load development for my Mossberg MVP and wondering what powders to try initially. Mine is the 24” barrel varminter. Just loaded up some Hornady 55gr V-Max, 55gr Nosler CT and regular BT over H335. Twist rate is 1-9”. Thinking Varget and maybe 748?

In my Ruger American 223 I use H335 with Sierra 55gr BLC2 with 60 Nosler BT Tac with Nosler 60gr PT CFE223 with Nosler 50gr BT and Sierra 77gr BTHP Match H4895 with Hornady 55gr for reduced load. It's a 1 in 8 twist. Dan.

Not the V-Max, but with the 55 Blitzking I settled on H335. Not the fastest, but accuracy was superb and speed is acceptable. Ramshot TAC was a very close second followed by AA2230. I should think any of them will do fine.

The 55gr V-Max is looking good with H335.

So just a follow up. The load shot pretty good, but speed wasn't there.

2. 2930

Benchmark in a 223 is gold. You get accuracy and velocity. 3475fps with a 52g ELDM and under 1/2 MOA for 5 shots. This was the first time out with the combo, so obviously room for improvement.

I have an AR with a 24” 223 Wylde bull barrel 1:8 rifling, I use for coyote and varmints. It does very very well with Hornady 55 gr #2266, and Nosler 55 gr E-tip with CFE223. Nosler max load for the E-Tip and close to a max 5.56 load from the Hornady manual. The powder definitely likes near max or max charges. It was disappointing until the charges got to the top end. Really accurate with H4895 And Hornady 75 gr BTHP as well.

I have some 50gr and 53gr V-Max I can try with Benchmark and also H322 and 748. Might have some CFE223 as well.
