I've asked this question before, on another forum, and was surprised at the response.

With Memorial Day omnipresent, How many of our forum members coerced your parents into signing your enlistment contract when they were 17 ?

I turned 18 at Parris Island, Bad, BAD mistake of timing on my part......

Not at 17. I was half way through senior year (18) and signed enlistment papers for the Navy. Graduated and went to active duty. (first time I ever saw palm trees - for the wrong reason). I was appreciative of the fact that the Military paid for my college. 18 at Parris Island? Hell of a way to turn into an adult!!!.

I was 17 and my Dad gladly signed the line. I followed his footsteps into the Seabees. Turned 18 a week before I got to Boot camp. Spent many more birthdays deployed across the globe. My 21st was celebrated in Souda Bay Crete Greece.

I signed the dotted line when I was 17 willingly; turned 18 after a few months, graduated high school & went into the US Navy!
