I can’t help but notice my gunsafe leans heavy on the function and light on form. I have few wood stocked rifles. Mostly stainless, polymer, carbon and aluminum. They make for durable work horses but definitely lack in the looks department.

All the 30/06 talk and beautiful rifles posted on here lately lead me to click on a classified add in a local firearm classified forum labeled kimber 30/06.

Two blurry pictures seemed to show pretty decent wood on a 84L Classic in 30/06. The price was pretty tough to pass up so I set up a meet to check it out and ended up the new owner of a very classy little rifle with very pretty wood.

Apparently they guy had won it in a raffle and didn’t have much use for it. It has a few nicks from gunsafe rash but the metal is flawless.

I stuck a 3-9 Nikon on that I had sitting on a shelf in my gun room. If this proves to be accurate I’ll get different better for it. I was thinking this might be a good candidate for a 6x42 leupold. The 2.5-8 and 3.5-10 vx3i are also contenders. Trying to keep it light and set and forget. No turrets on this one.

Any other optics I should consider?

Good looking rifle! I hope she shoots well for you, and I'd probably top it with the 6x Leupold.

Very nice. Congratulations ! A 2.5 - 10 x 40 Summit would work in the Brooks range.

Very pretty rifle, love it !

Great minds think alike. A 6x42mm Leupold would be perfect on it Guy! Beautiful rifle!

Nice rifle. Perfect candidate for a 6x42 or 36 with dots.

Or even a clean old M8 4 or 6x

Nice looking rifle for sure. A Leupold VX-3i 2.5-8x36mm at 11.4 oz would give you all the flexibility you need for all around use. The FX-3 6x42 at 13.6 oz would definitely be a great choice for a fixed power scope.

I like the stock with no extra metal or plastic additions. The wood itself makes for a great looking setup.
Around here with all the brush a 10-20 yard shot isn’t out of the question and neither is a poke across a canyon. For that reason I prefer a variable scope over a fixed power.

Looks like the perfect rifle for spring black bear on those pleasant evenings when the weather is perfect.

Nice find. Hope it groups as good as it looks. Don't know what distance your planning on shooting but I like 3x9 or little bigger variables. Just me. Dan.

Yep, it's a pretty one! Nice rifle in a great cartridge. Really hope it's as good a shooter as what it looks, if so a super combination for you. I'm sure it will be.

Love that grain!!
A Swarovski Z3 3-9x36 is also very light weight and would balance that rig out nicely too!

That’s a great snag! And in a great caliber!

I would go with either the 2.5-8 or fixed 6x Leupold scopes you mentioned.

Any idea what you plan to shoot in it?

I highly recommend the 165 grain AccuBond or Partition!

The scope choice almost made itself. I stopped into my local grocery store, 3 bears in Chugiak, to pick something up for dinner. Behind the counter was a leupold fx3 6x42.

I had loaded up a box of 165gr nosler partitions with 55gr of H414. A load I have used in the past in my encore barrel. In my encore this load was traveling just over 2800fps.

2 shots got me 1/2” low at 25 yards. Moved the target out to 100 yards and shot this group.

I adjusted to 3” high and then shot this group at 300 yards

The remaining 3 I used to smack my 200 yard 8” gong. Nice little group on the gong about a third of the way down from the top.

That’s honestly better than I was expecting. I can’t imagine needing more than this for a light hunting rifle. The 6x42 makes for an excellent fit.

Looks like you're loaded for bear!
Or moose, or deer, or caribou, or wolf, or ...
