I recently purchased a new Marlin 1895 in 45-70 and have just started load development. I'm currently using Speer 300gn jacketed HP's #2482 and 51gn of H4198 for a 3 shot average of 2085fps. I'm wondering if someone could run the 300gn Speer HP 45-70 combination through Quickload. I just want to see how my current load compares to others in terms of velocity. I'm using Hornady brass.

The new beast.

I took this pic of my nephew last weekend prior to fitting a scope. A 300gn Speer and 65gns of H335 certainly produced some impressive muzzle.

Congratulations on a great rifle. Your sitting at about 25k psi with the load you stated above. The velocity you say you’re getting is about as fast as you want to push a 300gr HP. You can push it harder but it won’t hold together and will ruin a good bit of meat. If you want it to hit harder use a heavier bullet. A 45-70 excels with brute force not speed.

Congratulations on your Marlin 1895 45-70. As you will find out, you can load it from mild to wild. A 300 gr bullet at 2100 fps is a potent load. If you need more, look at heavier bullets. Also consider hard cast bullets with a large meplat. These bullets deliver tremendous shock and penetrate into tomorrow.
I've had great success with H322 in my Marlin 1895G getting sub MOA accuracy with the Nosler 300 gr BST. And it is a hammer on WT deer.

The 300gr Speer is bonded and very tough. I’ve read of guys taking them to 2400fps and they still retain around 80% of their weight. I’m running them around 2000fps from my guide gun.

I’ve recovered one from a large doe I shot at 21 feet. I broke the near shoulder and recovered the bullet in the off hip. It weighed 270grs and is right at 1” wide.

The 350 Hornady FP is an excellent bullet from mine as well.
