Took my dad's rebarreled Bartlein Model 70 out this morning to shoot a load he quickly threw together with 140g ABs and H4831 right at 3000fps. Hes not much into the LR stuff so hes not as anal as I am about loading and shooting. This was just 100 yards, but needless to say, the Bartlein isnt to picky and shoots decent with about anything you throw in her. Hes happy with it and that's all that matters. I worked up a super accurate load with 140g NBTs and Retumbo (1/3 MOA) at 3250fps, but they were a little warm and he wanted to switch to the ABs. He killed a few deer and a couple spikes with the 140g NBTs just fine. Dont mind the other .22 holes, I shot a few from the CZ457 22 LR afterwards.

That will work Jorey. 3/4 MOA will kill stuff all day long.

That's pretty cool Jorey, I use the same load of 140 Accubonds and Retumbo in my 264. I haven't ever tried anything like the H4831/140 though, but it seems like that'll work pretty decent as well. Mines still a factory barrel and still humming along all these years later.

The Retumbo/Rl33 with a 140 or heavier is a beast though.

Nice work; always been one of my favorite rifle cartridge combos.

My Dad inherited my grandfather’s well used Post-64 in .264 Win Mag. It still has the factory 24” sporter tube though.

The H4831 and 140 grain AccuBond at 3k was kind of the way I was leaning for it. Dad was wanting to stretch its legs some but not probably farther than 600 yards.

Well if it was mine, which someday it probably will be, I'll be going back to the Retumbo or H1000 and shooting the 147 ELDMs. It's an 8 twist 26" Bartlein with a 4 port brake. Beautiful wood stock. It's his baby, hes always loved the 264 WM. He has a 300 Win Mag, but he takes his 264 90% of the time for all big game since he got it. It's a hammer with the 140s at 3200-3250fps. Both his elk dropped like a rock at 400 and 500 yards with shoulder hits.

Got a Winchester 264 from my father when he passed.
Had an opportunity to take a couple antelope and one deer but never packed it for elk.
The 120 Sierra SPT and 125 Partitions shoot decently and have handled the smaller game.

Great rifle with an awful lot of potential. (y)

I have no trouble understanding the lethal results observed with 140's at 3200+ fps...

For Caribou and deer size game I’m liking Nobler 130gr AB and Retumbo so far and its flat shooting at 3200 FPS. Question is should I take it ELK hunting ? My .264 Win Mag only has a 24 inch barrel.

Stick it in the lungs and you will be good to go. In the one I had I also used Retumbo but with the 130 gr Swift Scirocco also at 3200 fps, that's another excellent bullet to use in a 264 WM.

Yep, I am with Gerry, I'd not sweat that combo a bit for elk.
